Mastering emotions

4 posts in this topic

In one of Leo's videos (how to master and control emotions) he talks about changing the interpretation filter, so that you can determine your emotions.

But in another video (how to deal with strong negative emotions) he talks about fully feeling the emotion and not resisting it.

I'm just wondering which of these techniques you use at which time?

In Leo's videos, I remembered he said that the process of understanding our emotions is sort of like peeling an onion. At first, there are some very deep emotions that we have which we may not fully understand. We can allow these types of emotions to flow out freely and allow ourselves to feel the emotion fully, even when the emotion is really negative. This frees us from the judgement and suffering within when we try very hard to fight these negative emotions, because our ego doesn't like itself to identify with these negative emotions.

During the process of understanding our emotions, we gradually get more and more conscious of why we have certain negative thoughts, and which internal beliefs they stem from within us. When we're able to gradually identify these internal beliefs that are producing emotions, we get the choice to see if we want to change the rules of the filter. This is usually the time we do training work to change and get a new set of filter to produce a healthier belief system.

The first one is more of understanding different people's perspectives aka standing in another's shoes. For example, if you are a football player, you also have to stand in the shoes of the club chairman (Who pay you etc) or manager or fans.

The second one is more for yourself when you deal with strong negative emotions.

Every emotion that one experiences and if you feel stuck is because there is pleasure in experienced in your sub consciousness. Once you became conscious of it, you can choose to let it go.

It's like this, you know how they catch monkey in india? They put peanuts in a bottle and when the monkey puts it's hand inside and grabs the peanuts, it makes a fist and is stuck. The monkey is not willing to let go of the peanuts and also wants to gets its hand out of the bottle.

Our goal is to be honest and transparent with ourselves and become conscious of the peanuts we are holding on to. Once you become aware that you are one that's holding to the peanuts, you can choose let it go.

Fear is a habit.

As you recognize it,

you will be able to loosen the viselike grip—

not that fear has upon you—

but that you have upon fear.

Fear will go away once

you give it permission to leave.
