Contemplation on Plateauing Your Own Development

"There are a thousand hacking at the branches of evil to one who is striking at the root."

-Thoreau

Everything that we wish to accomplish in our Self-Actualization journey may be held back by decisions we make on a daily basis. It could be a decision to overeat at dinner, to skip contemplation for the day, or to not read that book that will threaten your ego. Personally, I have found that I distract myself to avoid dealing with my deepest issues. Issues that, if I did face them, a part of me would have to die. But do we ever consider that "death" might be exactly what we need? Choosing not to deal with these barriers has limited my ability to grow. How  does the avoidance of your deepest problems hold you back? How would your ability to overcome life's challenges be transformed if you were to break out of the chains you have placed on yourself?

Consider the following questions:

What are my most fundamental beliefs about myself and life? How are these benefiting or sabotaging me? - Create a list of your beliefs and contemplate them all.

What would happen if I were to let go of my stance on this belief? - Personal example: The world is dangerous and people are out to get me.

How can I view my egoic stance from a place of detached observation? What benefit could there be in doing this?

How am I creating my reality? How are my behaviors and beliefs affecting the people I encounter?

How is my selfishness backfiring on me? What would selflessness look like in this situation and what might result from it?

What would I regret not doing right now if I were to look back on this moment from my death bed? What would the hero in a movie about me do right now?

What is my highest form of Self Expression? Why the hell am I not working towards this?

I like this one. Keep it running  24/7 until it becomes  "I am the people I encounter" and on and on
