About Watching Television...

8 posts in this topic

So I noticed that even if I am watching educational content on television, I still spend a lot of time.

I decided to go 6 months without television (includes YouTube etc...).

I have a problem here, I really like listening to music and I think that going on YouTube won't be a very good thing to do. I also like sometimes to watch video's about exercises (for example: push-ups) on how to do it correctly.

What do you think I should do?

I am in a county that Spotify is not available...

@Ariel IMO do not be too harsh about it. You can still watch video's about exercises and Leo's videos on YouTube and listen to music. Just be more mindful about it.

There's value to be had in Youtube. I mean shit, Youtube brought us all here didn't it? Youtube (Leo and related channels) has literally transformed my life in a very short amount of time. Just be responsible about what you view and how much time you allot to it and you'll be fine. :)

It's all about how you do it. Don't just zone out to avoid feelings but do it mindfully. Recognise when you have the urge to binge and what it is you're feeling. It could be loneliness, sadness, anger, boredom or any other difficult feelings. Accept with kindness and compassion whatever it is that you feel. Investigate the feeling. Where do you feel it in your body.  Don't identify with the feelings, emotions or thoughts.  They will pass.

Be gentle and kind to yourself even if you decide to keep watching tv.   When you're watching you can pause every now and then and check in with your feelings. There is no wrong way.  We all just do the best with the knowledge we have in the current moment.

If you have a craving to view and it is imbued with aversion, desire and/or greed then you know that it will lead to more craving and suffering. If on the other hand you are watching some comedy that makes you laugh out loud and brings your mood up then this could be a skillful action.

As long as you are fully aware and in control of what you feed your subconscious you should be fine.

Although i would look into (Flicker-Free and Low Blue-light Technology)
