Nuisance Ego Defense Mechanism

6 posts in this topic

Hi all,

I've made what I consider to be great progress over the years in my meditation/no self practice. I've had great self actualization success through it, and some pretty interesting spiritual experiences during meditation.

However..........

When I go to meditate now, my mind likes to bring up nails scratching a blackboard. This is a recent thing that has come up, and I can only think its a defense mechanism of my ego to distract it from getting dissolved again.

Has/dose anyone else experience this? Have any advice?

Thanks.

Just watch it - and when you watch you have to remember that while watching, don't judge. If you judge, watching is lost. While watching, don't evaluate it is a defense mechanism of ego or not.

Hmm. That's interesting. I sometimes get unpleasant urges and thoughts that come up. But never nails scratching on the chalkboard. But it sounds like it would be an annoying one.

For me it's ringing in the ears and in the past I have had experiences with sounds of a Tibetan bowl in my sleep.I see them as reminders for me to stay conscious.the ringing usually happens when I am in deep meditation and then I lose my self in unconciousness for a sec and it reminds me to be awake again
