Intense Emotions

3 posts in this topic

I have recently started to practise letting my strongest negative emotions pass through without resistance. It seems to be going reasonably well, but my most feared emotions seem to be really hitting me hard since I've been doing this. It could be the meditation as I've had the best sessions the past couple of days and these tend to be the ones that cause these flaws to bubble to the surface. Anyway, being a super-conductor is at the forefront of my mind since watching the video on dealing with strong emotions so I hope this will pass, but can I have others' opinions on this because I feel rather isolated about the situation to be honest. Is it normal to feel the hurt more for a bit after letting go of resistance?

Peace

There is only one way through intense feelings and that is going right into them. Not stopping half way and return. Not stopping somewhere before the root of them. You have to go all the way until there is nothing left. Once you've seen them for what they are, you'll never get entangled in them again.

So sit or lie down. Feel your body. Give all your energy to your feelings. If you are a head centered person this may take some time and many trials. Once you figured out how to give everything of yourself to your body sensations, it get's easier to get in contact with the raw emotions. Not the made up feelings in your head. When thoughts are there no problem. Just again and again give all energy that you have to feeling.

You cannot let go of negative emotions because they are what you ARE, they are YOU. There is noone having them, so noone can get rid of them.

So BE the feeling and let yourself completely drown in it. Dive into them, deeper and deeper. Never stop. Like an explorer. At some point your breath might get very shallow or stop. That's fine also. Eventually there is no way around facing your own death. Since the pain, fear or anger ARE you, nothing than your death will do. Not your physical death but the death of your assumed identity.

Also very helpful and supporting is bodywork that focuses on letting go of general tension and clearing out the believe systems you have around the emotions.
