How the voice in the mind is not a self?

27 posts in this topic

@Javfly33 one way of looking at it is that posession ultimately doesn't exist. Contemplate Possesion. See through it.

This would mean that these thoughts are not yours. You don't own them and they belong to no one. What's happening is a process of identification with thoughts. You can unlearn this, by starting to notice the mechanism.

And no, obviously you are not your thoughts, for reasons you can anwser yourself.

I agree but why most of the time none of that is actual.

And no matter what when the internal voice arise I think that's me. Feels very real

Even if the realization of your ultimate nature has been rare, for it to happen even once disproves your ego's insistence that you are your thoughts. Through meditation, you can learn to stay in the state of awareness more consistently, until eventually you are always present.

Just because God loves you doesn't mean it is going to shape the cosmos to suit you. God loves you so much that it will shape you to suit the cosmos.

haha lol.

It hasn't always been that way, so I guess it's due to my baseline consciousness. Just listening to music and I feel a noticable deepening.

I've been wondering whether exhaustion has the same effect for other people. For me, it's almost magical lol.

If you experience exhaustion you do feel a shift in consciousness, right? it has an effect on you, even if not in terms of nondualness, right? Even if it alone doesn't result in a deeper nondual awareness, it should at least make it easier to break through in combination with techniques.

Daily mindfulness meditation. Eventually self inquiry will solve this. IME self inquiry is a much more advanced and fruitful technique than many give it credit for. It isn't even mentioned until stage 8 TMI, 2 stages after jhanas become possible. Self inquiry can lead to states that rival 1000ug LSD.

Ive had multiple "awakenings" where that voice seems just a thought, and that's it. Like a colour you see, or a sound you hear.

BUT, most of the time, like 99.99% of the time, that voice seems a self. (And it's me, obviously).

But this voice actually started contemplating itself just a few seconds ago. It accepted that it feels very real. "How this is not a self?" The voice said.

Why does it feel so real? It seems very real that THAT is a self and it's me.

Because much of what you consider yourself is based on thought, if not all of it. So seemingly, it appears easy to confuse yourself with the nature of thought since your apparent existence is made up of them.

But really you should be able to notice that your thoughts interchange, much like that of an ocean. Oscillating, flowing and crashing but your awareness of them still remains. All your thoughts about yesterday change instantly but the you aware of them stands maintained. Make a conscious effort to observe this.
