I went one 1 year ago.

Most psychologists don't actually understand mental health.

I find truth in both points. This forum is certainly not therepy, in fact you may find the exact opposite of the advice you need at this time in your life....

And yet most psychologists aren't aware of the spiritual dimension of life, though they are perhaps more likely to be open to it. OP has good advice, but I think if you've gone down the route spirituality long enough to understand existentiality, you won't be satisfied with "just" a therepist. This forum isn't always the best for people who need serious emotional help, but it can give people guidance and a higher vision.

I tried telling my mental health provider to quit watching porn, but it's just not as satisfying as doing it on here. Sorry

@zeroISinfinity There's only crazy people and people who don't realize they're crazy yet

Hehehe, true that.

The so-called spiritual path won't 'mess you up' - it will simply show you the full extent of how messed up you already are.

The question is: Are you ready for it?

There is no forum and no mind.

Nothing matters.

Nothing.

Or something like that.

@VeganAwake So true, not sure why you’re getting so much backlash for this unless I’m missing something

Pretty much every spiritual teacher would also recommend their students who suffer with mental illnesses to find specialists and do what is required

As far as I’m aware so does Leo, I remember him explicitly saying so in a few videos?

Sometimes I wonder if it's an honest, loving recommendation coming from a place of experience and wisdom or a "don't sue or blame me during your next bout of ego backlash, K?"

ETA: Not to criticize anyone in particular, as disclaimers are necessary when you live in an insane society that in order to cover up its own insanity, labels its scapegoats "insane."

I think it depends heavily on the actual situation. Imo the OP is right in the sense that some people who are in need of therapy and use spirituality to avoid it might be better off with some kind of therapy to at least stabilize their problems before it gets too bad. Some people are in a phase were they are too stuck in depression and despair to start mindfulness techniques to change the situation and are bot able to do this work. Other people can do both and again others can handle their issues from the present moment for example by using the emotional scale and picking better thoughts.

The trouble with therapists though is that they tend to be blind to a lot of nuances and the way thoughts actual work which might be an obstacle as the therapy proceeds. You have to meet the level where the person is at. For some works sufficiently.

The right way to approach spirituality is to become better than just being well. The wrong way to approach spirituality is to try to use its lens to recast all your difficulties as spiritual. Most mental health professionals don’t understand that, and don’t see when spirituality is keeping people back, and when it is beneficial.

Yesterday we had a guest lecturer, a psychosis specialist. To sum up, it was a psychotic person trying to teach a bunch of psychotic people about psychosis xD

There are specialists out there that are good, but those are rare. You won't find them by googling "psychotherapy".

Talk therapy in general is bs and doesn't lead anywhere.

A therapist should be skilled in a technique or various techniques that help you to get to the root of your issues. Almost every session should have a tangible result.

Working on your mental issues by yourself is also possible, if you have the right tools. So I don't see why people with issues shouldn't go on this forum. This forum is not just for people who're going straight for enlightenment, as far as I'm concerned. Some people need healing and preparation.
