music & meditation

2 posts in this topic

pros and cons in your opinion ?

personally from what i understand meditation is blocking any "doing" out

eg. listening to music is a DOING / action

but if was to not listen to music i would just be being - which is what mindfulness meditation is at it's core

right?

There can be something without an interpreting what you think it is, just noticing.
Noticing is basically the essence of meditation.
Do nothing, you notice when you are doing something and you stop and do nothing.
Mindfulness, you notice a distinction you are making and you lable it (Usually seeing, hearing, or feeling)
(In deeper states things become so indistinct from eachother that you want to stop lableing and just notice)
Being notices.

I like using music sometimes, it is useful to drown out any distracting things, but it can also become a distraction.
Really depends on how you work, what kind of music is distracting to you. If using music you really just want something that fades into the background, which is bascially the intention behind ambient music.

Thing for me is that I create music myself so whenever anything it playing I usually find myself deconstucting it. Although sometimes I can use the gestalt, the music as it is without me deconstructing it, as the object of my meditation, I have gotten into some deep states doing this before.

The how is what you build, the why is in your heart.
