Mysticism

"Realizing that everything is imaginary should heighten your passion, not lessen it. It's awesome to know that reality is a dream. This is the best possible news! You should want reality to be mystical rather than material. Materialism is boring and bleak. Mysticism is awesome and magical."

-Leo Gura

I am confused now what the word Mysticism points to. Some define it as merging with the soul of the universe, but that would be the same as Awakening. Others say Mysticism is any altered, heightened state of consciousness, so basically traveling to other worlds by altering your consciousness. But in the above quote Leo equates Mysticism with Imagination.

So when we use the word Mysticism we are pointing to Infinite Imagination? Looking at the universe as one divine creation and our role in it.

Is Mysticism a true worldview? (I know all worldviews are not equal to the absolute truth, but a worldview that states everything is imaginary including itself seems to be a better worldview than materialism, now that I've seen everything is one spirit/universe)

First post btw.

Welcome, @Mythos! Mysticism is less of a worldview, and more the path of directly realizing reality. It is nonconceptual, unmitigated, personal realization and resonance with the divine. There are mystics across most religions (Hindu, Christian, etc.), and the difference is that they trust their direct experience above any external authority.

Just because God loves you doesn't mean it is going to shape the cosmos to suit you. God loves you so much that it will shape you to suit the cosmos.

@Moksha  Thanks! So the difference between Spirituality and Mysticism is that all Mysticism is based on non-conceptual Consciousness (Direct experience), while Spirituality doesn't have to be?

Edit: Why does Leo then equate Mysticism with Imagination?

@Mythos it is transcending the human mind.  Transcending logic and rationalism.  Infinity/Being requires no mechanism - which defies all logic.  Because of course it is prior to logic.   Its just pure magic.

Reality is imagination because it is Infinite - it's substrate is nothing.

Wisdom.  Truth.  Love.

Mysticism it the pathway to spirituality. Your true nature is Consciousness, and mysticism is the journey of Self-discovery. There are no concepts involved, only direct experience as Consciousness itself.

I can't speak for Leo, but Consciousness is completely unconstrained. Imagination is just another word for creation, and creation is the game Consciousness plays. It is the ultimate storyteller, and what you think of as "you" is just a character in the divine story.

If you tear down the walls of your mind, formed by concept, fear, desire, logic and attachment, you will be an open antenna for reception. this is mystic imo

mysticism is embracing mystery, relishing that most stuff is unknowable

mind is only interested in and capable of the knowable

going beyond mind enters the mystical

To complete the other comments, I would say it is the path of mistery. Sciencie gets crazy and thinks all reality is a problem to be solved. The mystic understands that it is all a great mistery: as so, he acts and lives.

@Nate0068 Depends on what you think magic is. Someone has ESP and you think it is magic but its just reality.
