Gamestop stock situation

Indeed, let's shut down hedge fund manipulations.

That would be great. Look at what they were doing. They were driving the prices of Game Stop down calling it  "a failing mall-based retailer" and they predicted the shares would go down to $ 20 because "it is pretty much in terminal decline".

What they do with that? The same thing that the redditors were doing, but for millionaires and investors and blood sucking greedy Wall Street parasites. They do it in the old fashion, by declaring in the media that the companies are not good, and such... with rumors so people start selling the stocks and drive the prices down.

Now Redditors have found a quicker and massive way to do the same (I am not saying is OK) via internet and social media.

I think they should close Wall Street and put a casino there hahaha... OMG.

I've seen some people posting in the that WallStreetBets subreddit saying that now they could pay the loans they asked for studying (one said he paid like 45,000 in loans) and other said that he will be able to pay for a sister's treatment for a sickness she had and they didn't have money for treating her, he will be able to write her a check to do that. I think those people has more heart that the blood sucking parasites of Wall Street.

IMO

Of course manipulation of markets is going to be regulated. It always has been because markets cannot survive otherwise.

The desire to see markets go unregulated so that they can be manipulated by peasant buffoons as vengeance against Wall Street capitalists is not wise. It will backfire on society. Those same mechanisms will get hijacked by Wall Street execs very shortly.

As tempting as it is, treating Wall Street as some evil or devil will not solve our problems. It's just more of the same culture war stuff that has us chasing our tails.

Don't forget, your grandma has her retirement savings on Wall Street. And the ones who will end up fucked in this game are not the execs but the peasants.

All forms of market manipulation must be cracked down on, be it peasant or elite.

I'm not against what you are saying but it is situations like this that are exposing how a certain class isn't held accountable for their manipulations while another class is. We aren't at the stage of solving all these issues. We are still at the stage of exposing them and raising public perception of them. A little bit of anarchy really wakes people up sometimes.

Indeed, let's shut down hedge fund manipulations.

What "wallstreetbets" is doing isn't illegal actually and can't really be compared to the level of manipulation that the hedge funds benefit from, what we're basically doing is just buying a bunch of GameStop shares and holding our positions until the price goes up so that we can sell them at a higher price and profit, the root cause of the problem is the hedge fund managers who betted against GameStop, and they did it with more than 100% of the company's shares (they actually shorted 136% of the entire shares of the company which is ludicrous and shouldn't be allowed) so now what happened is that they backed themselves into a corner and they lost at their own game (or at least that's what's gonna happen if everyone holds on to their shares and refuses to sell until the price goes up exponentially)
Of course all of this comes with risks and a lot of people are gonna lose a lot of money because of this whole situation, but this is the nature of the market, it's always like this.
You already understand this stuff but if you want more clarification this video will do the job:

The WSB crowd didn't commit any crime, they used publicly available information to make individual decisions to buy a stock,. This isn't manipulation, it's doing what the market is there for, buying shares of a company and any time there is demand for shares the price goes up. It's how the market works.

The hedge finds on the other hand were actually manipulating stock prices to harm the company, it's employees and other share holders so they can make a profit. They just lost money this time and allowing the hedge funders to frame the circumstances as the crowd doing the 'wrong' while ignoring it was actually them who were doing it is what them and the media want to do.

It's probably what the government will do too because they are in the pocket of the wealthy wall street financiers. So in conclusion no crime was committed by the crowd but the government will probably protect the poor widdle wealthy hedge funds from the big bad meanie crowd.

this just seems to be the way the collective consciousness learns. by eating it's own tail a thousand times before it learns to stop eating it's fucking tail. basically all changes happen through a revolution of sorts. it's not pleasant but it seem to be the way these things happen looking back on history.

Imagine if the government actually bails them out or something.  Oh boy... That would be such a bad move. Keep helping Wall Street instead of Main Street is what is bringing all these revolutions in the first place

On point. Blame the exploiters not the exploited. So true.

I never got the whole idea of blaming the ones who are conned.

All toxic systems are the same. Pathriachy blames women. Capitalism blames the poor. Their go-to strategy is to shift the blame and play the victim themselves.
It happens ALL THE TIME. and sometimes the victim is already weak so it takes the blame. It’s gaslighting in a nutshell

They are both engaged in manipulation.

Neither is shorting stock a crime. So what you complaining about?

If it was up to me I would outlaw shorting period.

I used the term loosely. Replace "crime" with "wrong".

No government cares about bailing out one hedge fund.

But the SEC will certainly care about new market manipulation schemes via social media because it potentially threatens the large market system.

The SEC went after Elon Musk just for one of his tweets! Certainly they will keep a close eye on these Redditors.

The GameStop short-squeeze is not the illegal market manipulation that these hedge funds participate in. There's a lot of grey areas here. Buying stock with hopes that you can sell higher (after more people buy in) is technically not market-manipulation. And tbh I don't care that much, screw these billion-dollar hedge funds. Let the dog run loose for a while, and HODL till it gets 'em in the underbelly.

Release me.

Yep, in the 2008 RE crash they blamed the people who took out the loans for it, not the people who created subprime loans, who then packaged those loans in an instrument sell to others to trade in speculation so that tanked the value of the assets.

They bailed out everyone except the people who lost their homes, in fact, they let the people who crashed the market for profit take the homes, too.

Then politicians whip people into a red scare frenzy blaming socialists for the financial ills of capitalism even though it's socialists that seeks to protect the middle class working people from capitalists and inspires them to storm government buildings.

Yep. I vouch for this.

Bernie would have definitely done something to fix this gutter.

The very thing you complain about: people on Wall Street skirting laws and rules -- is what your Redditors are doing. Both are exploiting loopholes and such and acting like dicks.

I feel like manipulation is inherent when it comes to stock trading in the short term. It’s too easy to do with hedge funds who have insane pools of money or when individuals form a massive coalition like this case.

I think the best strategy would be to just avoid the game of trying to time the market and pick individual stocks. It’s way too risky, stressful, and most importantly to me, a massive distraction. I never really used to think of it this way but now I just feel like engaging in this short-term bullshit on companies with horrible fundamentals just to make a quick buck is rather cringeworthy to me. If you are going to invest in individual companies, it should be ones that have a vision that you are passionate about and believe in.

Based on all the research I’ve done, its easy to make money in the stock market by simply being patient and investing in relatively safe index funds that track the entire market over the course of several decades. It’s just insane how easy it is to become totally consumed by investing with very short-term goals.

Wrong is a relative term and can be used to mean a wide array of behavior but crime is an objective violation of established laws... these two aren't all that interchangeable.

Buying a stock isn't a manipulation, it isn't wrong, it isn't a crime. It's what happens every single day on the market, it's what the market is.

So they didn't manipulate prices or commit a crime. They did what the market is there for....though one may think stock markets are 'wrong', but that's relative.
