Good resources for basic Personal development?

8 posts in this topic

I'd like you guys to help me out to compile some good material and concept for foundational self improvement.

Spirituallity, Epistemology , Life Purpose etc are amazing fields BUT  I feel that the vast majority, myself including need to get back to some basics.

So the idea is, let's define basic personal development, what it entails, what it's parts are and lets link some good resources : Youtube videos, books, and other kind of resources .

Some fundational personal development concepts in my opinion :

Developing a strong work ethic.

Understanding and mastering HABITS.

Understanding Motivation, Leverage, Accountability.

Understanding and embodying discipline.

Strong morning routine.

Along these lines.

Let me start :

Lol this Sam guy spent 100 mins to talk on a few slides that one can finish reading in just 5 min. So long winded.

All these are good points but you need more.

Go read real books to gain deeper knowledge. Don't spend 100 mins on a video on some slides when you can read a real good book.

Go to goodreads.com and mainly look at self-help books with ratings above 4.1

Tony Robbins i heard good things about- never went deep into his stuff though

But yeah great topic - the foundational and basic stuff is something I'm starting to take seriously

I would add internal/introspective concepts too.

Responsabilization,
Honesty with self,
Self-love, acceptance, forgiveness,
Understanding emotions, emotional intelligence,
Relativism,
Metacognition (it's important to move on from these two, but super intense for the foundation),
Meditation.

And some others along these lines

I find the youtube series Mind Field super foundational to understand why the mind isn't trustworthy, especially if you're somewhat of a rational person, or looking for some scientific support for this idea.

Leo's booklist has great books on the topic, some of them really helped me get some basics down. It's worth it!
