Organic Black Bean Spaghetti !

Just found out about this protein-packed sustenance. Perfect for anyone who's into fitness and is trying to get their protein in. I'm substituting this for noodles that I've been eating with eggs, I know, I know, noodles bad, but when you're eating at a calorie surplus you take any help you can get. ;) 

If you guys have any lesser-known sources of healthy food, please do share.

In the organic shops here (Berlin), there are tons of these bean/lentil pasta products, really amazing if you want to leave gluten out and get the protein in. They are made out of peas, chickpeas, different sorts of lentils etc. They are just incredibly expensive :D 
There are also so many great tofu products here, the more expensive ones come with amazing ingredients, this one has 30g of protein and amazing ingredients.

It's still not 100% clean, but for vegan meat, it's insanely delicious, good for the gains and the cleanest for this kind of product.

Look into organ meats and homemade chicken broth. 

In my culture (Portugal), we make chicken noodle soup with organ meats from the chicken, so chicken liver, kidneys, and heart.

They're delicious and packed with nutrients; although it could be an acquired taste if you are not used to it. In addition, chicken broth has nutrients like collagen and support immunity.

@fridjonk Sweet! Explore are also in UK, good brand with a great variety of wholegrain pasta. About time we stop seeing only trashy white pastas on the market :) My only complaint is that they can be expensive as f in some places :D

@mmKay haha true! There is a brand here called Very Lazy selling prechopped garlic, ginger and onions in jars. They seem to be doing well.

@SgtPepper Over here in Iceland we eat a lot of sheep parts such as blood sausage, liver, heart, and sheeps head. Don't think we have so much variety on chicken meat other than the main. 

@Michael569 Yeah, a 200g box was about 5$ which is insane when you compare it to a 1kg pack of normal spaghetti which costs about 2$. The government should really let them import it for cheaper than traditional sugar-heavy food. This spaghetti does contain soy, is that something to be concerned about?

I've been really enthusiastic when it comes to nutrition research for a few years now. Soy is one of those things that you find a lot of differing opinions on. For myself, I found the extreme position of "it's super bad!!" to not be very valid, or - only if you eat tons of soy. It's a bit like salt, maybe it's better not to worry too much and just not go into extremes on both ends. But then again, if you have a sensitivity for soy, maybe it affects you more, listen to your body :)

Nutritionally Im not a big fan of beans because of the lectins making your gut more permeable. 
Same thing with all this "whole grain" thing. 

I doubt they soaked the beans enough before making them into noodles.

Yeah my body clearly tells me they don't - but maybe that's also because of the processing they go through to become noodles.

In the end, EVERYTHING has a downside. Do you know "How Not To Die" from Dr. Greger? I like his approach. He says beans/lentils are one of the best foods you can possibly eat.

The question is often not is it good or bad but rather: do the benefits far outweigh the downsides? Or vice versa? No single food is perfect, they all have some form of toxicity or side effect.

Not in those amounts. I assume that's a soy protein powder which is not the best thing in the world (tofu is preferable) but I wouldn't worry about it.

If you ate a bunch of raw beans, you could end up with extremely severe lectin poisoning due to high PHA content, I totally agree with the harmful effect of those in that sense. But this is well-known information and no company will sell you product that contains raw legumes. I assume these in the pasta have been boiled, dried, ground & powdered by which time 99.99% of the PHA is gone. For example, it takes only about 10 minutes of cooking to destroy the majority of the PHA in kidney beans. And then if all of that failed, I assume you will cook them for at least another 10 minutes, maybe even more as non-wheat pasta generally requires more time. SO we are looking at 5+ stages of processing. 

Yah Steven Gundry's production is a joke, he vilifies most of the plant food and promotes a palaeolithic diet while we, to this day, have no data that paleo diets are safe in the long term. If legumes were toxic and killing people we would have known that long ago considering that majority of Indians survive on legumes and have survived for probably a couple thousand years.  A large portion of south-Americans are living on them and I know in Eastern Europe certain strains of legumes have been grown for at least half a millennia because it has been the protein source of the poor.

These antinutrients are a modern invention to sell you garbage supplements that "protect you" from them. It is based on very little scientific evidence. I took a deeper dive some time ago, into things like Oxalates, lectins, phytates, goitrogens, lignans, phytoestrogens etc and to this day am to find one that is toxic for humans in rational amounts.
