It is possible to fully and completely accept one's looks?

9 posts in this topic

I've always had a hard time accepting or even liking my looks even though I'm a tall guy with a regular physical appearance. Recently I've been doing some shadow work and I realized that this issue stems from my teeneage years.

I'll continue to work on this, that's for sure, but do you think it's possible to reach a level where one even loves his own looks?

Yes, definitely. That’s what spiritual development is for - to realise that everyone and everything is perfect and beautiful, and just because the society has set certain standards (that are, by the way, constantly evolving) - it doesn’t mean anything is less splendid.

To love yourself unconditionally, means a lot of self-love is needed. And if you truly love yourself, you’ll accept everything that’s in you — and your thoughts about others are just an extension of you - so, the day you are full of this unconditional love for self, you’ll be able to find beauty in everyone and everything else, too.

Funny stuff - sometimes when I stare at the mirror for too long, I realise that we, humans, are actually so weird, in terms of our facial structure and features. So, what’s ‘looks’ here, altogether? Just because we see someone who’s termed ‘gorgeous’ on the media platforms, it doesn’t make them any less weird - I mean, what’s that thing called a nose that has two holes in them, haha? Also, what are these brows that have emerged out of nowhere - that’s hair above the eyes - dead fucking cells? Like, whaaaaat?

You know what I mean? I am unsure how else to word this, haha.

I wish you all the best.

Remember - you are beautiful.

@xxxx Yeah, you're totally right and I know these intellectually, but to integrate this stuff in my everyday life, well, that's when the rubber meets the road, I guess. Also, come to think of it, humans are weird as hell when it comes to looks :D

Did you manage to get to a point where you love your looks?

Learn to see your innate beauty rather than your articificial beauty.

Look at your face in the mirror. Really look at it, isnt it a miracle that it exists? Perfectly carved out by the big U. :)

Dont look at me! Look inside!

Yes, the integration can be a little tricky, but not impossible.

Answering your question here : I accept myself the way I am - however, because I love myself - I eat healthy, workout, wear stuff that makes me feel good, etc.

Everyone is beautiful in the real sense, but we have this choice if we want to feel it or not.

Beauty is a state of mind, to be very honest - the day we actually begin taking care of ourselves, we’ll realise / feel our true beauty.

You take care of what you love

I'd say it's less about acceptance or liking and more about judgement. You are judging yourself against some internal standard that you've built up over time. Maybe as you say it started in your teenage years. But reaching back to being 15 and trying to work it all out is fruitless. I'd say work on being less judgemental about yourself in general. Easier said than done I know. It's more of an attitude than anything else. Can you lead life without judging?

I have, but then again I used plastic surgery.

I guess it depends on what your looks issue is, something you can change via PS or work (bodyfat, tongue posture, muscle) or something you can't change.
