Will we ever be able to cure conspiracy theorists?

22 posts in this topic

It seems like more people are believing in conspiracy theories. And it's common in the MAGA movement, and now they are attacking democracy and people are dying because of it.

Someone who I know is lost in conspiracy theories. And she puts her and others lives in danger because of it. (Conspiracy theory about covid-19, the vaccine, etc.)

How will we ever be able to cure them since they refuse to go to the shrink?

It's such a sneaky type of mental illness.

I think morally it would be the right thing to force them to the shrink. Because if you ask anyone: "Do you want to know the Truth or do you want to believe in falsehood and delusion?" Everyone will choose Truth.

So, everyone wants to know the Truth.

But they can't help themselves, they can't stop believing in bullshit crazy nonsense. Therefore I think it's ok to intervene and force them to the shrink. It's for their own good (and also for everyone's good).

But on the other hand... I guess you should be allowed to believe in what you want...

But at least a attempt should be made to forcefully make them stop believing in delusional insane horse shit.

https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Delusional_disorder

Edit: it's like a virus. It spreads like a virus. So you should use force to stop such harmful shit from spreading and harming everyone and everything.

Since the crazy conspiracy theorists do want to know the Truth, you would do them a favor if you forcefully drag them to the shrink.

They would thank you later.

Yes, by bettering our education for future generations, not by telling kids what to believe but how to think, epistemology, open-mindedness, real skepticism, fact-checking.

The MAGA boomers are already screwed, cant save em'.

In a sense this delusional madness were going through right now is proto-Yellow (dont throw tomatoes at me just yet) since people ARE starting to question society and thinking for themselves, theyre just doing it in a very crude dangerous way.

Its better to question society than to eat up whatever the TV is feeding you.

Haha

Good luck with that. That will only make them believe their conspiracy more.

Yeah that's probably true.

So I wonder if we will ever be able to cure them.. Maybe not with force. Maybe with soft methods like Rilles said.

If we play with the idea: what if really many people would start losing their minds to conspiracy theories? It would be a problem for humanity. What would the scientists and authorities do? Would they do nothing? Stay passive like they do now?

It would be a big problem if 100% of humanity would be insane.

I think if inmortality was a thing, these people would come up with the most thrilling screenplays with the best  and most unexpected plot twists ever. Damn.

Also, people don't want the truth. They want to be right. Or feel they know the truth, or feel they are right.

You know what?

That's exactly how you fall into the hole of conspiracy theories.

So I'm not sure I agree with you.

Questioning too much is being paranoid. You actually need a big chunk of trust in the mainstream to stay sane and not fall into conspiracy theories.

I didnt say to question too much. ;)

But if I believed everything the TV taught me I would have never stumbled upon Leo, a sort of curiosity to step outside the boundaries of mainstream culture is needed.

What if the TV tells you socialism is evil? Are you just gonna swallow that and not research for yourself?

Why? I thought the whole point was to question everything until every assumption you ever made was debunked?

Isn't the problem with conspiracy theorist that they don't question there questioning, and because of ego and fear they lach on to a convenient explanation that serves their survival?

Question their questioning, yes ?

Actually I will say that to the person who believes in conspiracy theories.

The solution is to make it illegal to intentionally spread false information.  You don’t try to convince murderers to be nice.  You isolate them from society.

The con men who created QAnon did a brilliant job of constructing a myth that people are willing to die for.  Adding the “pedophile” narrative gives it an emotional charge so it can spread at the speed of light.  Where was the FBI?  Why do they know so little about this?   Under cover of  “freedom of speech” dangerous lies can propagate.  Lies are more powerful than the truth in a low consciousness population.  It’s interesting that “freedom of speech” is presently being forced on the tribes of Afghanistan at the end of the barrels of American guns.  As if this is the solution to any problem they have.    One silver lining to this situation, is that the era of American cultural imperialism has come to an end.

Check if it corresponds with your direct experience.

1. Have you found yourself yet?

2. Are you part of reality or separate from it?

;)

My point is... healthy skepticism is good. Conspiracy theorists are not healthy skeptics since they make up theories about what they dont know, which is not truly being a skeptic, its just filling the void of not knowing.

We explained this long ago:

https://www.actualized.org/articles/true-vs-false-skepticism

Make the distinction between skepticism directed inwardly vs skepticism weaponized outwardly.

Conspiracy theories are skepticism weaponized outwardly in order to avoid inward skepticism. See the trick?

https://www.actualized.org/articles/distraction

It's dead simple, but very sneaky until you're told the trick.

I think conspiracy theories also have a lot to do with the need to make sense of the world. Just in the same way cavemen may have thought of thunders as god's fury for disrespecting mother earth. As a way of reducing fear , having a feeling of  security and sense of familiarity over what is going on. Thinking you know something kind of blocks you of thinking more about it, right?

It would be a very fundamental need in Maslow's hierarchy, at the same level as physical safety, shelter and so on.

You create a huge army of people who are very aware and wise and not mentally ill.

Such a big army spreading throughout social media that no MAGA lot of trolls can do anything with their stupid conspiracy theories.

In the end, truth always wins.

These days I'm reading about how Holocaust didn't exist or never happened by these conspiracy theorists and they try their best to explain it away but there is video and picture evidence.

The future generations won't be able to create conspiracy theories because the internet doesn't die out. So there will always be video evidence unless the media gets hijacked and silenced and all evidence destroyed or buried.

We have plenty of historical evidence of conspiracy theories and madness of crowds. Somehow that never stops future generations from going mad.

Yep, the Zionist conspiracy theories goes back to the 1800s and anti-semiticism goes back to Roman times... we never learn. The Satanic conspiracy of Jewish globalist overlords eating babies is basically just Medieval blood libel.

But there is a huge difference between the evidence for something that occurred in the 1920s versus something that is happening now.

It's much easier to manipulate history that belonged to the time when picture or video technology and internet didn't exist.

I believe with time it's going to be much harder to manipulate facts and events
