Envy of others - what's the root causes and solution to this?

Your happiness isn’t to be found externally. You have to fix your mind.

Your primary goal needs to be to raise your level of consciousness. 
Daily practice is a must. You can do it through many ways but choose the ones you resonate with. And assume that your mind will always try to get to his comfort zone so you have to push it.

For example I wake up and focus my mind on my breath for 20 minutes. 
I do cold showers.

SDS for an hour+.

Hatha yoga.

And listen to some teachers.
