Productivity

5 posts in this topic

Hello everyone. I like to share my problem with you . May be You can give me tips to solve it.

For this year, I have some main plans about my study.

- learning German language ( at least B2 level)

- learning python programming ( to find job)

- spending time to my university lessons

When I have appointment for evening with my friends, or when I go to the work (I meet others at there) , I can study very well. Even though I'm tired, I study at least 2 hours. But when I sit at home whole day, when I don't meet others, or I don't go to the work I just use social media or I do other free things by feeling guilty. I can't study, even I can't clean my house. I feel unhappy and so on. In this case, I depend on others to be productive.

What do you think about it? Do I have to try to be social, or do I have to find people to meet everyday, or I have to learn to sit at home and  to be with myself? What's wrong with me in your opinion?

Thanks for attention

At first it's important to know what you want to do with your "freetime", do you want to spend it being productive to get yourself closer to your goals? If so, plan the specific action steps so you don't end up scrolling Instagram.

If you know what you want or have to do and still end up distracting yourself all the time, then it could be that your motivation isn't on point and you should consider that is the thing you are going towards really authentic to you.

Anyway, in most cases it's simply resistance. Even if you do what you love to do you will feel strong resistance from time to time and it's quite normal. Understanding resistance helps to kick its ass and there is a great book I'd like to recommend, it's The War of Art by Steven Pressfield.

@Snader okay, but when I meet my friends evening, or I come from work, that day I don't have any resistance to study, I study very well in that time.

I will definitely read this book ?

Some thoughts:

- You may find social engagements stimulating, and there’s nothing wrong with that, but beware of making this a constant excuse. It’s good to be around people, but that does not mean that you should not find your own company worthwhile or motivating enough.

- What do you do with your social media? Your social media algorithms are a great way to understand yourself better, and you could do the necessary shadow work in that regard. What is it about social media that makes you feel lethargic in your other pursuits?

- Feels like all this media usage is a form of escapism - understand why you do it?

- To build productivity, here’s a simple principle : To get better at X, do X more
