Quietest Room in the World

6 posts in this topic

This guy spent 86 minutes in the quietest place on earth, he beat the previous record of 67 minutes.

After a while his mind started to race, then at a certain point he began to hallucinate.

I was wondering, how long do you think a very experienced meditator could spend in this room? Preferably someone who's experienced with psychedelics and hallucinations - because this guy was clearly freaked out by his (very mild) visuals and his mind got very busy, very quickly.

This looks very promising for practices like contemplation, self-inquiry, mindfulness, focus and meditation. I think if an experienced meditator, specifically one that does eyes closed meditation or mindfulness, might last much longer.

I could beat this. But the price is only 800$, meh, not worth it.

That's what I was thinking too. Which is also why I'm puzzled why nobody has attempted to beat the record?

Maybe it's weirder than we think. On the other hand: how weird can this possibly be (compared to psychedelics this is obviously absolutely nothing), I mean common, some mild hallucinations, as Daniover9000 said it's a really nice opportunity to observe a new state of consciousness, nobody disturbs you, you can meditate as long as you want... sounds lovely!

Everything he talked about I've pretty much experienced more or less, hes just freaked out because he isnt used to meditation. Its just the mind trying to make sense of a lack of stimulation. He didnt even "go crazy", clickbait title from him. Plus, he talked too much, pure silence and closed eyes and he couldve gone much deeper.

I think it's mainly because the price, and if you're so confident you can beat the record, you won't generate further motivation for beating the record, meaning that beating a record now becomes an extrinsic motivation and that telling yourself it's so easy to beat the record now makes it harder to commit to actually beating the record.

I could definitely beat this record, because my typical mediation is in that range of hour to hour and a half and so. Also, I do it for fun, for more than just beating the record like seeing how my mind makes sense of it all , and the loneliness turns me on in a positive way.
