Have You Ever Felt A Spontaneous Lift In Awareness?

10 posts in this topic

I was doing a bit of contemplating, close to what you might call open eyed meditation, but not really because there was some music on and I wasn't looking at a blank wall or anything.

I was contemplating the observed and the observer conundrum which I have always struggled with a little bit. And then all of a sudden I felt myself "lift up" literally! but I'm guessing no, it was my awareness lifting about 10 fold and it made all my hair stand on end. Unfortunately I got over excited and I started saying, "yes, go, go" and it subsided.

@Neo Did it feel as if awareness suddenly came to a point of perfect focus? Like hyper awareness kicked in or something?

YES!!! That thing, focus, everything came into focus!

@Neo I remember the first time it happened to me exactly a year ago. I was saying to myself "Wow, what was that?" Amazing isn't it! I never realized that could happen before that first experience. After looking into it, the best description I can find is called Samadhi. A lot of that going around now. It seems to come in waves. Maybe that's just coincidence?

@Neo It is thought that during Samadhi, one part of the brain becomes quiet, and another part becomes suddenly active. That shift, when it happens is unmistakable. Unless it's experience it as you did, one would never know that possibility even exists.

I'm going to come back and do some research later and look up what you said, but I have to rush and finish my work right now. Especially all I should have been doing while staring into infinity. ;)

On the one hand I'm thinking there was way too much chatter in my brain for this to be a major leap in meditation but on the other hand, it's a very "real" experience and amazing.

The predominent thoughts or chatter during it was that, "wow but I'm not even falling asleep. I could do this meditation now and I could do it forever."

The reason for this thought is that I am constantly struggling at different times of day with falling asleep instead of meditating.

Another thing, is that just before doing this strong contemplation into what I call the "observed and the observer conundrum", I was going through some other thought processes along the lines of;  It's not me that can bring about enlightenment because I don't exist. It's actually that other part of me that is already enlightened. And I was thinking on this for a few minutes until I wanted to "get out of the part that is me, to the other bit that is enlightened" and when ever I think this it takes the form of a fight. Then moments later I got onto the topic that I mentioned previous.

This "fight" is quite an important part of it isn't it. Has anyone else experienced that?

with all the meditation and mushrooms, my deepest experience came when i was on a random walk sober.

Thank you Richard. I understand now, the important milestones of the path are not necessarily in a typical meditative situation. I think I am following a typical newbie trait, to hunt down what were all the particulars of the circumstances of my experience to recreate it. I want some of the bare knuckle fighting of my soul back as much as I want the resulting awakening. I want it all back again.
