Music and Friendship

4 posts in this topic

I was wondering, do you think a shared taste of music could be an indicator of potential friendship?

Especially if it's very narrowly defined combination of taste, like for example "Minimal Techno, Blues-Rock, Post-Rock and Baroque Music" - this would be a more or less unlikely combination of taste.

Do you think that if two people share an unlikely combination of taste in music genre, the potential of these people resonating on a interpersonal level with each other is increased?

Sure, people like to make friends with people who they have things in common with, especially if it's something rare, like a mutual interest in polyrhythmic synth jazz.

Edit: I looked it up and found a paper on it if you're interested in delving deeper into the subject: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC5491604/

Absolutely. I have made a few long lasting and meaningful relationsips directly because of similar tastes in music. You inquire and share about music for decades, literally, and it can bring alot of joy.

My experience has been hell yes. ??3,4,5,6 people playing, no talking, just the one vibe, psh, forget about it. It’s beyond transinterpersonal. Creativity outlets, co-creating, the ‘practice’ of singing even, double psh.
