this brings you to action only state. where you drop the why and how of the milk spilled and get to what's needed: wiping it clean.

Why doesn't your advice end my suffering? Or preferably: I want to become happy.

The beauty about "I know that I know nothing" is that it supports itself. So to speak. So, "I know that I know nothing" includes not even knowing that I know that I know nothing.

it is attempting to end your claim of ownership/identification with suffering. 

 

it's meant to get you to see it's not YOURS

nothing more or less.

if i tell you a friend of mine is being evicted from his apartment because he's not able to pay his rent - why doesn't this concern you or make you suffer? because it's not your rent/situation. you can adopt that situation to be yours, but it isn't. had you adopted this situation to be yours upon hearing it... my teaching would not change the knowledge of this situation for you - only the dropping of its ownership

 

same as sounds coming into your ears. if you sit with me in a busy restaurant, there's all the noise around us, chatter of others etc

that chatter isn't stopped or ended. it's ignored as you focus instead on me as I talk to you. you drown out the noise and lose interest in it. it is there, but goes by unnoticed 

same way, the suffering thoughts will continue to play until you are interested in them... and as you lose interest in them in knowing they aren't yours. they will eventually stop. they like to dance if someone's watching. if there's no audience member, they don't dance.
