how do you deal with sleep paralysis ?

42 posts in this topic

i've read somewhere that if you encounter it you must remain calm, forcefully shut your eyes and try to move various body parts till the REM sleep is over so you can fully wake up

what are your experiences

holding your breath for a few seconds will automatically stop sleep paralysis, if that's what you want

This is my wheelhouse (not really), and yet I can offer no help. Diagnosed with narcolepsy at 19. Mid 20s now. Narcolepsy just means very roughly that instead of stage 1 sleep, you have REM sleep. So paralysis upon going to sleep every night. Happened for like 3 years every night and it was quite terrifying but it eventually just stopped happening. For no reason it seems, but it happened around the same time I did a chelation protocol, though it wasn't at the exact same time, so that correlation certainly doesn't imply causation.

It’s scary asf cuz u try to move and scream out for help but you can’t you have to surrender to it then crazy shit happens. Everytime I try to surrender to it it becomes intense asf and I have crazy ass visions of rolling onto the floor out of bed then looping back up to being on the bed. Never encountered demons during it. I have it quite constantly cuz my sleep cycle gets fucked up.

if you have it a lot you'll get a bit used to it

then you won't try to scream or anything and can even enjoy it a little

@The0Self i keep hearing this guy's name, didn't he create that app - the headless way ?

Definitely not. He's been long dead and was a chemist who was a little on the nutty side but he knew heavy metal detox more than anyone.

@PurpleTree I've had this happen every night for 3 years straight. Eventually I just stopped caring. I would jerk myself out of paralysis after a long struggle, hundreds of times a night, literally shaking in terror.

3 yrs that's heavy, i learned how to snap myself out of by kind of moving my shoulder a bit, which was really hard to do when you're paralysed.

kind of learned to enjoy it a little i mean it's a pretty "unusual/interesting"feeling, after that it wasn't really terror.

did you also have the levitation kind of feeling experience, where you kind of feel like you are hovering above your bed going to the ceiling etc.?

that doesn't have any dark presence but it's still similar and you're paralysed.

Well I have narcolepsy so yeah, all kinds of hallucinations. Even at the worst points I was grateful to have the condition. I tripped for free every night.

yea dude you got a lot of free trips

that levitation feeling was kind of dope

one time i remember i stood up, and wasn't paralysed and my bedroom looked really weird, a weird light and everywhere in the room there were these kind of weird looking threads, kind of looking like weird cobwebs, still not sure if i really stood up that night or just dreamed all of it

funny thing is though the first time i ever had sleep paralysis, was on the same day a friend told me about it.

and after that it stayed for some yrs.

so i better not talk too much about it :P

Actually pretty accurate advice you got there. I've never tried the hold your breath thing, might work.

Basically, you just close your eyes and think happy thoughts. If you are scared, your environment will become scary, so you gotta keep calm and take deep breaths. Keep your eyes closed and do your best to move your body, while imagining happy scenarios to distract yourself. Something that really works for me is thinking about sex. It completely distracts me from sleep paralysis, as weird as it sounds.

I've gotten to the point where I can get out every time. You can even use it as a gateway for lucid dreaming. Simply imagine a scenario you want to be in, and sort of imagine yourself entering into it.
