Can traditional religions lead a person to genuine Awakening?

4 posts in this topic

Iv'e dabbled in the mystical writings of various religious traditions and many accounts of the ancient mystics from the past and I wonder is it possible that one can be both extremely religious and pious, if not fanatical to one's traditional faith and be fully enlightened?

Someone like John of the cross comes to mind. Reading accounts of his life he seems to  have lead a very intense contepmlative life but was also loyal to the Catholic church.

So are religious traditions a viable path for full enlightenment?

I think they have. There’s very religious people who had awakenings and enlightened experiences.

The thing is how they assimilate that experience. If they are in a Christian tradition they will interpret those experiences different.

Jesus interpreted his enlightenment different than Buddha, but both were enlightened beings.

IMO.

Don’t you realize that all of you together are the temple of God and that the Spirit of God lives in you?

I've certainly have had some amazing awakenings when I was Muslim. The only problem is that they were superficial compared to the awakenings I have nowadays. The depth is very different.

Yeah but the depth and the span of the insights wil be much more limited than a nondual person gets. For example christians and Muslims will mostly ignore the nothing and infinity  aspects of God and will focus more on love. Also, they mostly will keep a separation between them and God and will deny that they are God until if they reach very deep states that they starts to doubt the assumption they made.

I am the only thing stopping myself from receiving infinite Love form Myself. I am Infinite Love for god sake.
