Memories

Any kind of memories is an attempt to create continuity and consistance within you.

Think about what happened 1h ago, 1 day ago, 1 month, 1 year etc.

It feels as if it happened for mostly one reason, consistance with the present narrative of your experience.

If you put the consistance on the side, your past memories are equal to those of your dreams, of the movies you watched, of a book you read, of something someone told you, of what you daydream about your future.

Try to see that all those memories are one of the same, just with different stories and characters.

It's one big story, not the story of the character who reads this.

I wonder why sometimes its imagined that I can remember something, and sometimes that I can't.

I get what you mean. But stop trying to deconstruct your memories. You might reach a point of confusion where you can't remember what you did a minute ago. This will affect your ability to function. You will think you've gone insane. It's no longer an intellectual game. Stay away from these inquiries unless you are serious about awakening. A half assed awakening is equal to insanity. A Complete awakening is beyond sanity and insanity.

You can't make an omelet without breaking an egg ?

Personally I prefer to become insane than living a life without purpose.

There is nothing worse than a life without a purpose.

I recommend deeply contemplating what memories actually are beyond what anyone has say been influenced to believe by spiritual circles or otherwise, this is an ability that comes with practice but just try and think as independently as possible. Memories are much, much more than what we think we are, everything is, we need to be careful about categorising them too casually outside of efficient conversation. We cannot even see without a memory, neither can the universe as a whole, it would otherwise, cease to exist to itself. Imagine ceasing to exist to yourself, you wouldn't even know you were acting like a fool or only by mere chance, acting like a genius.

It’s just a unique faculty humans have that is part of creation and the grand design. It’s like asking why does the senses of sight exist or sound. It just is what it is. Humans have an advanced mind that allows for the conceptual creation of memories. Other life forms have memory of varying complexity but not like humans do.  An insect might only have its instinctual memory to eat and reproduce and that’s it.If it weren’t for vivid memory humans would live a much simpler life.
