MAGA rallies - basically everything we shouldn't do now

20 posts in this topic

Just oh my god... Look at all these people. Alot of them are going to be sick in 7 days. Shouting, hyperventilating, crowded, spraying the virus on the surfaces they are walking on... Amazing, just amazing. I am sitting here, thinking going to Riga to bring a guitar to a luthier. xD Well, i think nothing beats these rallies where it comes to backwards leadership on the pandemic.

All rallies and protests, whether from the right or the left really need to be halted and strictly banned.

It's just unacceptable how many lives such events are going to impact.

The world is witnessing a great battle between the Spirit and the Ego like never before in the history of mankind.

The Spirit understands the general good. Whereas the Ego keeps clinging on to childish selfish needs out of Insecurity and self righteousness.

The Ego being tested like never before. The Ego being exposed like never before.

It looks really sad right now, hopefully this will be a learning lesson for years that we must not ignore the greater good and not act so stupid out of selfishness. Or will humanity ever learn?

Talk about criticism from above vs from below. Lol

P.S. Watch your double standards. If Libs were marching against Trump, would you be so concerned about Covid?

At least BLM protestors wear masks.

I see all these Maga rallies and usually find large number of people not wearing masks, kind of a defiant way of supporting Trump and his non-stance on Covid.

What would you say about that?

For me, yes. . . that was my initial gut concern when I first learned about BLM protests months ago.

'Course, there will always be liberals with that attitude but you can't assume that of someone because they're making fun of conservatives spreading Covid.

A) Many MAGA people wears masks.

B) Masks aren't a guarantee of anything. Mass gatherings are still problematic with masks.

I'd say only this much. Any mass gathering is a problem, whether it's a MAGA rally or a lib March.

MAGA people wearing masks? That's rich. Maybe like 15% of them, but that's being generous.

Large gatherings of any kind are stupid and dangerous right now. They're even more stupid and dangerous by people refusing to wear masks and believe it's some kind of hoax. Remember the Sturgis disaster?

Leo, covid denialism is a hallmark of right-wing politics. I'm honestly not defending the BLM protests etc. in times of a pandemic, if I'm being honest I do think they pose a hazard, but at least most left-leaning people agree that covid is a problem and take precautions as a result. MAGA and other right-wing tendencies either just ignore it or even outright embrace their reckless behaviour. It's a problem of Green vs. Blue. Herman Cain even died as a result of getting covid from a Trump rally. We can't ignore the obvious.

Only on the conspiracy theorist extremes. Australia is a very right-wing society and most people are pretty reasonable around the issue of COVID. We need to be careful conflating extremists with healthy conservatism.

Good point.

How do Australian conservatives view Trump?

We had a guy named Clive Palmer - a loud-mouthed, charismatic billionaire from the coal industry - run for prime minister. His slogan was "Make Australia Great" (not joking). Mercifully, he did poorly. Trump is mostly viewed as a clown here, though a minority support him vocally and the ugly side of conservatism - opposition to environmentalism and batshit religious antics - is consistent to both.

Keep in mind that the guy behind the Fox News network that has supported Trump, Rupert Murdoch, is Australian. He had to become a US citizen in order to expand his media empire Stateside. And a lot of the same games are played back at home, but the main Australian conservative issues seems to be opposing renewable energy for as long as possible using BS fossil fuel propaganda, or stereotyping unemployed people as 'bludgers' to denounce social services - though we do have healthcare and other basics here.

Same here in Europe.

Thanks for the response.
