Thoughts happen to us. When you wake up, you can observe them from a distance, even play with them, but you realize you aren't them.

consciously, no. 
do I enjoy my thoughts? so much! Yes so much so.

they kinda just appear inside our awareness. 
I see it as one aspect of consciousness playing with itself(another aspect of awareness)

then you certainly also choose/create the thoughts which pop up in your mind?

I used to think that too.

From that Eckhart Tolle etc. school of thought.

"You are the awareness in which the thoughts pop up, but you're not your thoughts"

 

 

But if you are everything, you must be your thoughts too?
