I am not my body and mind...I get it. Kinda?

17 posts in this topic

Last week or so, I came to the realization of something interesting. I was meditating and then it somehow hit that I am not the body or the mind - but the layer behind it. I am the awarness aka everything which is just experiencing itself.

This was not enlightenment or a mystical experience in that sense though, it was just an insight but I think I am onto a start of atleast being able to see a tiny tiny glimpse of what is ahead of my journey.

I understand I don't know the truth, I comprehend that I am not even close to enlightenment but it makes me wonder. What do I get, and how close am I to really get it? What is your experience with these insights that are not mystical in that sense? Have  anyone realized or experienced anything similar? I am trying to figure out some sort of a road map on where I am on this spiritual journey - so all help, tips and thoughts are greatly appreciated. (:

You have had a realization. Now the next step is to be the realization :)

Just because God loves you doesn't mean it is going to shape the cosmos to suit you. God loves you so much that it will shape you to suit the cosmos.

@SamC but since reality is paradoxical... you ARE your body+mind.

The insight, when it goes full circle should leave you with the understanding that you're not JUST the body+mind... You are the body+mind AND the world. You are ONE, with the whole... Or rather, you are the whole. The whole includes the body+mind+world. Know yourself to be this whole and then just be whole as @Moksha suggests :)

Don't have to renounce the body... Just understand it's like your car. Take care of it. But don't lose your peace if it gets dented or breaks down. You're the driver. The driver/awareness lives on. One car dies, the next one is available, and so on.

@SamC

keep doing exactly what you were doing.

Be empty and aware.

It's right under your nose and so close it seems hidden.

Be confident in what is recognized ❤

There was probably a feeling in your body when you had this insight. If you can trigger that feeling continue doing that and live there.

I know what you’re talking about. The feeling becomes associated with a mental image/concept and becomes a memory. Referring to this memory to recall the insight becomes unreliable since it’s now a representation. This is a very common psychological trap.

@SamC

Sounds good, just continue your meditation practice.

First, such insights may hit you, then you feel the blissful energy through the whole body, then you may "disappear" and "appear" again realizing that you are the creator of everything. Don't have a high expectations though, just be :)

Medi means middle, tion is used to abstract a noun from a verb.

Imagine if you were floating in water and each arising thought about a you, a I, or a myself is what keeps you floating at the surface. Then, imagine each of these arising thoughts which is let go, equates to sinking just a little more. If all are let go, that is, never held, only recognized to appear & disappear...in ‘sinking to the bottom’, the view would be such that there is no you, I, or myself, “up there floating” “on a surface”.

There's infinite depth as far as my experience goes. You start with unrealizing what you aren't but thought you were. Then you keep unrealizing until there's nothing left. And then you're free to do whatever you want.

If you have no confidence in yourself, you are twice defeated in the race of life. But with confidence you have won, even before you start.” -- Marcus Garvey

Yes :) Enlightenment dissolves the ego enough that "you" sink from the surface as a wave, and are more deeply settled as the tidal current beneath the wave. There is still a distant sense of individuality, but a deeper realization and connection with your source, which is the ocean itself. Meditation sinks you to the "middle" of the ocean. Less surface movement, more power and stability. When you physically die, even the tidal current disappears, and you dissolve back into the primal ocean that you are.

Or to use another analogy, "you" are traveling back along the ashvattha tree, which grows upside down, with its taproot above and its branches below, back along the tree to the root from which you sprung.

Ah, the tidal intention. Beautiful. Brought this to mind...

“Lightning crashes, an old mother dies
her intentions fall to the floor
the angel closes her eyes
the confusion that was hers
belongs now to the baby down the hall

And now I feel it comin' back again
like a rollin' thunder chasing the wind
forces pullin' from the center of the earth again
I can feel it.”

keep going.

You can go far enough your life will be over and even beyond that.

This monstrous thing we call ego that blocks us from our True Self is so multidimensional and complex with hundreds of

thousands of strong body guards and soldiers.

The war within has just begun for you.

Best of luck.

Set yourself up for the long haul.

Never give up.
