It is rare that a guy as smart as Stephen Hawking, who also had a very hard life, has been a total materialist until the end. Seems stupid close mind

It's demonstrably false, easily, but you have to remember they have a different idea of what materialism (etc) means.

Everybody with a high school education knows that what we interact with is a production of our minds. Our HS teachers taught us, light enters the eye, brain interprets it, brain makes an image, we see that image.

They think that non-materialist metaphysics means, like, if you leave a room while water is boiling it stops boiling. When it's actually about what water IS when not perceived. I.e. not how an object behaves, we are focused on what it IS instead.......
