God forbid, if Trump wins, what’s the future of the US?

16 posts in this topic

What are the things that could possibly happen?

Who is it going to impact the worst?

Where is it going to take the world in terms of progress?

I really hope that Biden wins, but by any chance of bad luck, if Trump does, is there at least a slight glimmer of hope to look forward to?

I see a huge problem if Trump becomes president.

First is that economy will take a big hit.

Foreign relations will be soured because most countries don't like Trump at all. And Trump is good at damaging foreign relations.

There will be more chaos. Also race relations will take a big hit. Because black people will totally lose faith in the system

Covid response will be poorer and Trump will totally neglect Corona since he wasn't challenged on it. He will get more arrogant and fire Fauci immediately after winning.

He will set the precedent for the downfall of America by constantly bamboozling people with his ignorance and arrogance.

By using a constant racist rhetoric and racist dog whistling and supporting white supremacists openly, Trump will lead to a massive increase in the mushrooming of white supremacy groups all over United States

This will impact the reputation of America in the world. It will also cause violence and encouraging of violence.

Trump will keep watching silently from the Ivory Tower because nothing matters to him except his own security and well-being

The reason why the Taliban loves Trump is because the Taliban hates Western values and liberty, they don't like democracy and democratic values and they know that Trump in power ultimately signifies a dent in democratic system. They want America to run tribal and as undemocratic as possible so they can easily control America.

Yes, I agree.

The only emollient needed to treat this wound would be solidarity.

Would another 4 years give a chance to the progressives to come together, as a united bunch, leading the path to a political revolution? That, their voices would get much more stronger and their opposition, sharp and demanding?

Could this be our slight glimmer of hope?

Or,

...is it all downhill from here?

@xxxx  I think it's downhill from here at least for some time. You can clearly see that even such a big event like Corona that lead to so many deaths did not change the hearts of Americans for Trump

So, it has to be something even bigger for a the ship to get a big jolt.

It will take more than 4 years because in case Trump wins, at the end of 4 years there will be some tailgating and "riding on the coattails of the winner" happening before a new surge takes place

Maybe Biden is not the right candidate. Can't say. But Obama brought a historic surge for the Democrats

Maybe a revolutionary candidate is needed.

Trump's racist half baked patriotic message will also begin to die down at the end of 4 years. People will realize that his message is useless and hollow and they will focus back on creating a united America.

But this will take a ton of time before the big giant wakes up.

As time goes by, the black and Hispanic population in the US will keep expanding which will help in voting as well. Right now they are still a minority and many of them don't have voting rights. Or they didn't register or have identity issues. This gives the majority a disproportionate advantage. However over time, even most blacks will become aware of their voting rights, they will exercise their rights to bring system change and this will pave a path to progressivism in America.

Thanks largely to black people and their undying efforts at civil rights movements, that America will get to witness some progressivism.

But before the calm, there will be a storm. The Storm is needed for calm to come!

America will eventually become the most progressive nation in the world in the future, mainly because of the ongoing protesting efforts by black populace. They will do it.

But it will take a lot of time and resistance and fighting and clashing before we get there.

What if Trump ends up changing the basic structure of the Constitution — where he grants himself unabridged, excessive control and power?

Yes, I fervently hope all that @Preety_India mentioned proves to be right — the increase in the consciousness of people with respect to their rights — but the worrying thing over here is, what if these 4 years are enough time for him to change and impact things negatively? What if he superimposes himself atop the Constitution? It is more than possible now given the situation at the Supreme Court, etc.

On top of that, all the major powers have dictators as their leaders, who are now changing rules to extend their term in office without any opposition.

What if Donald does something of that sort?

Correct me if I am wrong (and I hope I am wrong in this matter), the future seems very scary — something that history hasn’t even witnessed and the something that we aren’t able to anticipate, perhaps.

In this age of the internet, how different is this time in history going to be seen? How different/similar is this storm before the calm?

Where we are now in terms of humanity, is more plausible a place, or are we regressing further, day by day?

@xxxx  those fears are perfectly reasonable.

That's why I wanted this man so badly defeated. But I guess America is not ready for it yet

Yes.

It is altogether more scary at this present day and age where just a single tweet will end up serving as a catalyst to something abominable.

This centralisation of power at even the most decentralised levels is going to cause much consternation in the time to come.

Previously, in the older times (again, correct me if I am wrong) there was a clear divide between the people at the top and the people at the working-class levels or below. They were, unfortunately, victims of that kind of control. The only difference being that they were fed ideas from a top-down level. They didn’t know much, and they were okay with complying because of the lack of information that there was.

Now, I would like put my thought out here —

Right now, due to the internet, there is no such clear divide. It is no more ‘one leader’ and other people — this form of othering is not as sharp.

My fear is that due to this constant exchange of information, and so, so much false information, there’s this one giant, where probably Trump/other dictators are like the mouth or whatever, but the people who worship them work like a body that think, work and want to be like him. It’s no more a leader-people dynamic. It’s a giant monster — an amalgam of many like-minded ones (and not the best ones). It’s becoming a new norm everywhere in the world, too.

Here, the leader does not even have to use force, just a small tweet, and there will be domino effect in a bad direction.

False information, in my opinion, is worse than lack of information. It’s lethal.

Never have people felt this included (social media/real-time opinions/ forming groups and creating havoc just at the drop of a hat), and now, Trump is no more a leader, he’s an extension of themselves. Same for other leaders, too.

I hope I could convey this idea in a pellucid sense.

There’s a lot more I want to say, but God, this is exhausting and painful to witness.

Not much. If trump wins America will probably just continue being in this depressive aggravated state until further notice. It will survive, just be super aggressive and negative.

Let me tell you what happened during Trump's presidency, so you won't have to be worried again.

But before I start, I recommend to stop watching the constant catastrophizing of the Trump bashing news corporations. America is better than that.

1. Trump signed the biggest package of tax cuts and reforms in history. A great thing for small businissses and the American worker. As a result of Trump's tax bill, small businesses are having the lowest top marginal tax rate in more than 80 years.

2. In countering the threat of China and Russia, NATO allies are now spending $69 billion more on defense since 2016.

3. He kept his promises to Israel and moved the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem. A bold move in my opinion, as the other president did nothing regarding this topic.

4. The Trump administration concluded a historic U.S.-Canada-Mexico trade deal to replace NAFTA. This trade agreement with Mexico and Canada revises Mexico's labor laws and encourages more auto production in North America, meaning more jobs for the American people.

Should I stop here or do you want me to point out the facts?

America have been doing just fine with Trump in power. Don't let those on the left discourage you. Trump loves America and everybody knows that.

Actions and facts matter most than character. That's why so many people voted Trump.

Me on the road less traveled.

@Frylock  hahaha. :D

This need to be shown to all the Trumpists who think Trump created many many many jobs.

The surge in job creation generally happened when a Democrat like Clinton or Obama was in power.

Under Democrats, American economy does really well.

You should watch Biden Economic Speech in Scranton Pennsylvania. The best speech ever by a Presidential nominee.

I think that's why he won Michigan
