Suggestion for this forum

9 posts in this topic

There us one category that I find really lacks in this forum.

A lot of political discussions here but they are very rarely rooted in history, as a result they become very shallow and superficial so to speak.

To get a firm grip on our contemporary time, history is extremely useful. And especially from an integral perspective.

Here are some categories I feel lacking and would be amazing to have a seperate sub category for.

History

*Historical periods(romance, enlightenment, midevil etc.)

*History of art(film, music, paintings, literature etc.)

* Wars

*Revolutions(american, french, industrial etc.)

* History of religion (abrahamic, pagan, norse mythology, eastern mythology, african nature religions, germanic mythology, ancient mythology)

* Ancient civilizations

* History of culture and cultural development

* Historical development of culture from a climate zone perspective (tropical, desert, polar, mediterranean etc)

* History of ideological development(democracy, feminism, capitalism, etc)

It's not like people will start posting about history just because you open up a section for it. There has to be a demand for it. Regardless, history fits well under this section. What is history about but society, government and politics?

That was kind of the point with this post, to see if other are interested as well. If so, I think it would be useful to have a seperate history category where these topics can be discussed more consciously.

Especially since this forum is dominated by something I would call rootless green. That's why the discussions in Society thread are all about media hives, and the meditation thread is all about confusion in some way. History have a very grounding effect which could be useful for all of us.

If the other sections were flowing over with history content, sure.

Interesting. It's often green that accuses orange for being ahistorical, but do you have an example in mind?

I think they are both ahistorical.

Not any concrete examples, it's more about the relationship to history. It's held as beliefs  rather than an integral part of contemporary times.

 I strongly agree ??????

This is even more important than the politics forum. It is needed to put our political understanding into the proper context, so that we can understand what we're dealing with here today.

Then it has less to do about history and more to do about epistemology, don't you think?

@Carl-Richard

That's a very good point!

More knowledge of history is still very useful, or rather integration of knowledge.
