how to ask someone if they have an std?

I don't have much experience with sex but how would you ask someone if they have an std? do you ask for proof and how do you ask for it? what about those sporadic hookups, how do those exchanges go about or do most of you skip it and just take your chances?

If you are having boyfriend and it's your first time, bring it up and ask him directly.

I asked my bf directly and he said no. He was also very clear to me about his past dating history. 

I think most men are going to be honest. 

Still, I understand how tricky this can be.

If you don't trust them you should probably not sleep with them. Also use condoms.

One thing I wanted to tell you as a grave warning that certain STDs are transmitted despite using condoms. Because the STDs spread to other parts of the skin surrounding the sexual parts and contact with such parts won't prevent you from getting the STD. 

Condoms are not fool proof. Also condoms can break, although rare, but they can break. 

STDs can also spread if you contact with the person for long periods of time even though you're not actively sexual with them because there can be many instances of intimacy where certain touching is involved or rubbing of sexual parts. 

So never take chances.

I'd just straight up ask them.  "Before we do this, do you have an STD?"  or some such.  Health first.

To be honest, I've never asked directly because I date a certain kind of girl, but you never know unless both of you have done the test recently. 

Use condoms, of course. It's not 100% sure but at least you reduce the risks.
