“Search for the answers within” Yeah right

5 posts in this topic

Now, I do have to preface that there is truth to this.  Nowadays if an issue arises I just meditate, do yoga and contemplate and the problem resolves itself.  Usually it is all about removing my awareness from the problem.

But I see people all over the spiritual community saying this.  That is not how it works.

Take Doug.  He is a normie.  Works a 9-5 and his god is taking molly on weekends and partying trying to get laid.  One day he realizes that this is all shit and wants a new direction.  Try telling him “search for the answers from within.”  The hell is Doug going to be able to have within himself?

Fact of the matter is that there are humans who have a great deal of knowledge.  If we are truly had all the answers then Leo or any kind of teacher would be irrelevant.  Unless you just watch him for entertainment purposes.

I guess you have to be at a certain point before you search for answers from “within”.  But at the same time, closing yourself off to what’s out there is naive and arrogant imo.

There's no need to close off yourself from resources that are "out there" for learning. From the way I see it, you still need to go within to first to realize that as Doug, you need to help yourself by seeking professional help with that molly addiction. Then if you manage to clear that up, then you can go within again and find the next step.

However, you're also partially right. You also probably need a roadmap to do these things. But taking deliberate action will show you how important going within is if you've tried it. They kind of play into each other.

In short, you need to have your bases covered (kind of like how Maslow puts it) before you can go within to solve deeper metaphysical deficiencies and so on.

Perhaps someone else has a more nuanced answer; this is just my take. Cheers~

Nice. I'm doing something similar.

I always knew that the answers were within.

You're missing the joke. The punchline is that the distinction between within and without is an illusion.

The funny thing is that Doug is never going to find that out by himself. Or maybe he will, if he looks within...

I start to get a feeling that anything can go. Every path is a valid one. And while you are not fully realized, you are still learning from whatever comes your way.

Even the people who do very unloving things, will in the end get the lesson out of it and grow. It might be the dark deed they do that flips them far into conciousness...

I had an experience a few days ago that I'm still trying to grasp, but if it did one thing, it made me sure that everything is perfect even if it doesn't look that way, even if we feel like shit...
