Omega 3 Supplement contains Heavy Metals?

Are Omega 3 supplements risk free to take? Since I avoid fish for the reason of heavy metal toxicity.

You shouldn't avoid fish wholeheartedly because of metals.

You just shouldn't consume too much of it.

Avoid fish completely, its not worth it, eat brain instead for omega 3 and liver for vitamin A... so on...

Part of farmed fish feed is fish oil, this is a big source of contaminant that makes farmed fish so unhealthy.

@integral Iceland is currently nr.8 in the highest life expectancy and we've eaten fish and other seafood for hundreds of years. And it was often the only food that was available not so long ago. Can't be that bad. O.o

@fridjonk Fish is probably the healthiest thing to eat, except in this era, where the fish are contaminated. This contamination is no joke, when they label things as "safe levels of mercury", its not. I had major issues with eating fish and mercury level build up in my body. It builds up fast.

I can eat fish about 2-3 times a week and feel healthier than ever, mentally, and physically.

So maybe it just depends on what your ancestors used to eat or something related to that. :)

Not just fish oil, any supplement or food can be contaminated with heavy metals. And there's no way to know without expensive testing.

This problem is far deeper than merely "fish".

There are no guarantees here. All you can do is minimize risks.

@Leo Gura Was in the Bahamas during March at the onset of the Covid outbreak. Nice island air and beautiful life experiences.  No chlorinated or fluoridated water, just filtered rain water out of cisterns. And no power due to Hurricane Dorian, so there's a natural light/dark serotonin/melatonin cycle. All that does loads for your headspace.

I actually am worried if my long term poor sleep hygiene is doing long term damage. I spend too much time on screens and I can’t fall asleep till very late and I’m trying to pull it back but I just end up laying awake until I fall asleep at like 5am :/

I think bottom dwellers are even worse. All the clamps, lobsters, shrimps and gigantic crabs that people eat has gotta be so toxic. Molecules of heavy metals and all the other sediments of human production will eventually sink to the bottom. It seems lead is heavily accumulated in these as well and so is Copper.

It is doing much more damage than an occasional tuna. Definitely good idea to cut back on your screen time. Read a book, light some warm bulb lamp and you'll see how fast sleep comes :)

@Value chug your fish oils and get a combination of flaxseed oil (or just flax seeds) & algal oil.

@Lyubov CBD Oil, Magnesium, Lion's Mane & Teas like Chamomile will help you relax.

No screens near bed, or at least wear blue light glasses from the evening.

No Caffeine after like 12/1 PM, and if you are drinking it add in L-Theanine to help smooth the 'high.'

Meditation & Relaxation before bed also helps, also things like warm baths.

Oh and exercise- every single day, your body craves movement. If you have an office job, every 25-30 mins do some movement, and of course workout!

Ocean pollution is new, theres more heavy metals, plastics, garbage and god knows what in the oceans now then there was in the 1800s.

@neutralempty haha no joke, animal organs are a good source of everything. Eat brain to build brain. ?

Can source it from local butchers, like veal brain.

Our ancestors did not waist the organs...

@neutralempty @Michael569 makes sense. Any reason we shouldn't be eating brain?

@Rilles Heroic tail lol, eating brain is common in many cultures, the fear of it is cultural. Lucky because that makes them super cheap to buy.

Well based on lots of the previous topic on the forum, the brain is unfortunately where a lot of stuff gets stored including certain heavy metals that can cross the blood-brain barrier. Also you don't know anything about those animals, their feed and the way they were treated. I just can't justify the risk of brain being extremely contaminated for the benefit of getting some extra coq10 & DHA

I've never in my life noticed any negative effects from eating fish.

So I can't say I'm sold on it being that bad. Especially fish of the shores around Iceland and Greenland.

@fridjonk Try a hair mineral analysis test, can get one done for around 100 usd, reveals deficiencies and heavy metal build up.
