is working for a company/boss different than being a peasant in the middle ages?

I suddenly had that realization that working for someone else is not really different than the middle ages when farmers worked hard to make money for the rich/noble people.

 

Thoughts about that?

What do you mean...?

The middle age is also called the dark ages, where women were burned for being witches, where the church would crucify heretics..

There's a lot more fear for survival.

Whereas, you come in, you get PAID, even if you did a shitty job. Ya maybe you get fired, but you get to reserve your dignity and life. With money you can buy anything you want.

 

Also, I think it's important to understand the concept of the western world we live in. We are the western world of opportunities! We are the ones who got lucky! We are not the starving children in Africa!

Its a similar structure but obviously living conditions, human rights (at least in the west) have vastly improved. Also if you are entrepreneurial you have the opportunity to start your own business and exploit others. If youre smart you can get a higher paying job as well, so long as youre providing a lot of value to your employer.

But regardless its still a vertical structure where those at the top make money from the work of those at the bottom, whats clever about today is that most people will have hope that if they work hard enough theyll be higher up the food chain one day. There are some that say in the days of peasants they were actually happier because they didnt have the false belief that anyone can be at the same level of the rich, so they embraced their identity as peasants and had a disdain for the rich people. In modern day the notion that anyone can 'make it' means that wherever you are its your doing, even if you work as hard as possible if only you worked harder youd be better off. This culture is more prevalent in the States, which is why the have the worst benefits (least holiday, maternity etc).

A true evolution would be a more flat structure where the workers would have more say and have a share in the company, it would be a move toward socialism, until then we havent really evolved too much from the past.

   Life in the middle ages for a peasant is far more difficult and different to modern life that You'd need to study some history, do lots of visualization from each perspective involved in that time period, really open your mind and maybe take psychedelics to fully appreciate how lucky you really are compared to these people. Life really was different back then.

Study your history and listen to more of Leo's videos. Life back then was stage red/blue.  Modern life is stage orange/green.  There's still a lot of disadvantages to today's system but in general if you get injured on the job and have to take time off they won't just see you as useless and kill you like might happen back then.   

You have the freedom to choose your friends, your job, where to live, your passions, etc.  Back then a lot of these things were chosen for you. There were less/no social protections. The list goes on.   My stage orange thinking at work here... I do think technology will solve the world's problems.. especially when we get free energy and complete automation where we no longer need humans to do things like slave away at an amazon warehouse all day with their every task timed and every move monitored... at least as long as the robots don't gain consciousness and turn on their masters.  A lot of humans still do really crappy, hard work for low wages in many countries around the world... even US factories can feel like prisons... but we are making progress. 

 

I've listened to a number of videos that have opened my eyes while driving on my trip the last few days.. the debunking libertarianism video, democracy video, and the spiral dynamics stage blue/orange and part of the green video, so I'm thrilled my perspective on the world is opening up more.. I can feel it...

No way, put yourself in your employer's position or of you wanted to start a business. Consider how much your are risking, consider what would happen to you if the business collapsed and you had to declare bankruptcy. Consider all the long hours you would have to put in when you first started the business. And most businesses are small business if your working for a huge corporation who would get never go bankrupt that is also something else. As a business owner you are a slave to your customers.

Also it depends on which country you live in how developed the boss is. If you feel like a number and a slave make yourself more valuable and get hired by a higher consciousness business or go through the pain in stating your own.
