The Art Of Blending

18 posts in this topic

This is something I truly love.

Blending a bunch of healthy things together.
Lets discuss this and infuse each other with tips and tricks.

To introduce this I can share what my most common blend is composed of:

  • Organic garlic
  • Organic ginger
  • Frozen kale (Can't freaking find organic product of this yet)
  • Frozen organic broccoli
  • Frozen organic spinach
  • Frozen organic cauliflower

Edit: Of course some water too. :P

I drink this as daily as I can.

The crazy thing about this, is how good it makes me feel LIKE 10 SECONDS AFTER. Seriously.

This is not placebo.

It feels like it has to be the healthy microbe-flora showing appreciation.

I totally get that!

I usually use some kind of algae like chlorella or spirulina to blend with fruits or vegetables in the morning. It really gets me going and gives me energy for the day.

But I've experienced that the quality of the blender really makes a difference when it comes to the consistency of the mixture.

@marcbro

Algae, interesting.

Why? How did you learn about it and what is the benefits you've read.

Yeah, I had one earlier that broke and wasn't that good at getting the desired mixing.

Now, I have one that cost around 65 dollars.

Been nominated and won in a lot of tests, I'm quite darn happy with it.

Hm okay.

So this is the only place where we should recommend products that we enjoy, and have no financial connection to?

Can you please share with us the amounts of all of these ingredients in more or less general terms so we can get an idea of how much we need to put in there...and how many servings do you make at a time? Give me all I need to know lol

Interesting. I got to try the green mix that @Simon Zackrisson suggests. I don't usually feel super energetic after my breakfast, but I also don't feel tired or heaviness in my stomach.

Nice. And I've heard of spirulina, but haven't really tried it on my own.

Truth is, I kinda freestyle with it.

Meaning the amount of each specific ingredient is set by feeling.

Eventually I might write different recipes for the favorites :)

There are tons of good ones out there though.

You will get a lot of inspiration, or just easy-direct-recipies if you google around.

And, perhaps some other members has some favorites they can share.

I think it could be a good thing to start with a shake that has some nice touches of fruit and berries in it.

I personally went kinda hardcore with it and just pursued nutrients without really considering the taste. (I've actually come to enjoy just the fresh taste of vegetables without sugar in the equation.)

In any case,

This is so crazy healthy man...

Not only is it so much more effective and pleasant to drink this as a green shake, but If I'm not mistaken, there are certain nutrients that gets released as it gets smashed in the mixer. Which I believe the body has hard time to break down on it's own and process, meaning you get the pure fucking deal instantly.

Even though it is sometimes tad annoying to prepare the mix, I don't think I've ever not thanked myself afterwards when drinking it.

Also another thing:

The body needs fat to pickup all the nutrients*, so make sure you get some of that in conjunction.

A hot tip for this is to add avocado to the mix, to be on the sure side.

Since I eat LCHF, I get all the fat I need. ^^

*(Again, if I'm not mistaken.)

I used to freeze in portions.

And also used to freeze small ice cubes of it, to put in drinking water throughout the day,

I think I will do that again soon :)

Is this an indicator that you've been dabbling around with blending before? :)

I've never blended broccoli or cauliflower before. What is the texture of this mix like?  I'm a little scared to add garlic too; I'd be worried that it'd be completely overpowering, taste wise.

The green smoothie I'm currently drinking everyday:

-1/2 banana

-1 cup mixed berries (cherries, blueberries, strawberries, raspberries, etc.)

-3-4 large handfuls of greens (usually spinach, chard, kale)

-1 cup water

3 tbs hemp hearts

It's really tasty. =D

You could say that :) I feel usually that it takes so much effort to blend (you need to clean the blender afterwards, etc.), so I just usually eat the fruits raw as they are. I also live with another flatmate who sleeps late. So I am also afraid of waking her up. But besides these reasons, I like the texture of the fruits, so I feel I am kind of losing some good things when I blend.

I actually sometimes eat some of the vegetables I'm about to mix in cus I think that maybe the intense blending kills some nutrients,

So as to get the best of both worlds, I do a intake of both the raw as well as the mixed version ^^

By the way, fruits may do a little good, but it is the vegetables that is the real health bomb.

Thanks for your tips, Simon! Yes, I do realize that the vegetables are the ones that are worth having in the smoothie in abundance. That's why I really liked your blend of greens.
