*Questioning Passion And Contribution*

2 posts in this topic

What are your thoughts about people who follow an egoistic passion? For example, people who are into competitive sports, A lot of Youtubers, bloggers and digital nomads (I am generalizing here). The only way they can continue pursuing their passion, whether it's travelling or riding a bike, is by advertising products of big corporations or ads on their channels (or by winning monetary prizes in competitions that also funded by some meaningless corporations).

Leo talks in the LFP course that the biggest fulfillment comes from contribution to the world but they seem to be happy as hell while I think their contribution is questionable. I do realize that some of these people like famous athletes, use their fame to influence in good ways on society but 90% of them don't think about it when they do what they do.

1. Do you think these people bring true value to the world?
2. Do you think contribution should be a part of your life purpose or it can be something totally selfish?

The profession doesn't directly tell you their purpose. It's all about why they do it.

Someone can be helping children in Africa but if they do it mainly to get validation from their friends they will not be happy. It's low quality consciousness. On the other hand, someone playing basketball in the NBA might be doing it to inspire others and use his fame to share deep insights with the world. That would be high quality consciousness.

Also you can not judge a book by its cover. These people you mention may not be 100% fulfilled by their career. But maybe they value other things in life more. For example family. Your purpose could be being a great father and having a loving family. Or wisdom, your purpose could be to read a lot of books and do deep inquiry into different fields. Those can be very fulfilling and someone having a low quality conscious career can still bring big amounts of value into this world in their private life.

Basically, it's not all black and white. And to see from the outside what is going on inside someone is very difficult. See for example all these movie stars that seem to be happy outside but battle with depression and with suicidal thoughts.
