Help with holotropic breathing

Every time I try to do holotropic breathing I end up either falling asleep or stopping after a few minutes due to the feeling of "this is enough for now, I'm not getting anywhere, I'll just push myself harder the next time". Idk, is it supposed to feel like a lot of work and I just need to push myself to keep going or am I doing something wrong here?
