How to win at the materialistic game of society

13 posts in this topic

Hi guys, this is gonna be a less mystical and a more concrete post.

I just turned 18 and I used to live in a tropical rainforest, but I moved to a rich country 2 days ago and I am really starting to notice how toxic and stressful society can be. It's almost like most adults are doing something wrong with the way they deal with society that makes their life miserable.

If you have an average salary than you often won't have much money left after taxes and insurance.

If you have an average job you won't have much time and energy left to improve yourself.

If most people around you have a limiting mindset which is almost always the case then you won't have much motivation to do anything.

I found out that only focusing on spiritual things like a monk won't help either because we still live in a society so we have to play the game.

So how do you play this "game" effectively ? How do you get financial freedom ? How do you stop being a victim of society, and instead do whatever you want to do ? How do you live the best most fullfilling life possible ?

@Don Wei

yeah, you gotta get your finances in line so that you can free yourself up to pursue spirituality harder.

There are a lot of books and content on the internet that you could learn from. Overall, my biggest suggestion is to get good at marketing and have a highly valuable product.

@Don Wei

It's kind of tough. I would start with developing patience. Maybe through meditation. Then try to do the hard work very regularly as that is the key to freedom.

Read Robert Kiyosaki's Rich Dad Poor Dad. It is an awesome personal finance book and it will show you how to manage money.

Going about finding your Life Purpose will also help. It will fall in line with your spiritual practice.

@datamonster this!! ?

Ideally find a 40h/week job that doesn't tire you out too much physically and mentally so you can work on your life purpose on the side

Then you'll eventually be able to quit that job, do your life purpose full time with some time for other interests too :)

@Don Wei  I think you would get much more value actually doing something, there are so many websites where you can apply for work. These marketing books will be so abstract if you don't have any experience with marketing. Check out facebook ads, basic coding, certain websites you can find... It's really easier than it sounds and it teaches you a lot.

@louhad @Epikur i already meditate, but I constantly get amazing stories and ideas in my head that don't already exist, and that hurts me so I thought if nobody has created it yet then why would I wait for someone else to make it when I can do it myself.

So I started writing a book but i've only written 3 chapters so far and I keep hearing I won't be succesful doing this, but I really enjoy it and maybe I could also learn how to make a website that would be pretty nice.

@Don Wei  Yes it is!! Don't be afraid to try things just like that, it can turn out to be just so much easier that you initially thought :) Maybe you can start a blog, write there, and by doing that get some feedback on your writing, i think that would help! Definitely possible and easy these days.
