What makes a great scientist? (People who consider themselves a good scientist answer

5 posts in this topic

my dream is to study forensics and be a detective. Studying to go to college in that field before i go to police academy.

Studying chemistry and physics, I wonder what makes a passionate scientist to drive him to become successful? Im reading feynmans biography, and the idea seems to be much around curiosity. I play a lot of sports. And one of the reasons that i find sports so attractive is its frequent tests on courage and strength. These tests are what drives me to continue doing muay thai and basketball. Music is its beauty of emotions that drives me to sing and play guitar. But what about science? I am a novice in this field....... but i desire to become good at it. Is it simply curiosity that makes one great at it?

Choosing truth over academic success would be one, even if that means going against 98% of the science community.

And curiosity would certainly be a driving force in this field.

@fridjonk thank you. Curiosity! Alright! I do have extreme curiosity and a piercing drive to find the answer to something. Often Leo seems to be like that lol. thats why I relate to his videos very much. choosing over academic success? That is currently what I'm doing. And I know many successful scholars throughout history have been like that. How ...have you been going against any community lately?

@charlie cho It depends on what truth you seek. Science is good for relative truths, but will never manage to quantify absolute truth. This is something the scientific community has a hard time accepting because they rely on "evidence". If you seek absolute truth, the only evidence will be your own direct experience and unfortunately, you'll sound insane to others.

What are the questions you wish to find the answers to?

Mastering your own mind is ESSENTIAL. If you master your mind and learn how it works, then you can effectively do science with it. Read books on it. Read “A Mind For Numbers”.
