Is Holistic Education only for the wealthy?

4 posts in this topic

I have 2 children aged 8 and 10. In 2 years my eldest will go to Secondary school. I can see that the current system is inflexible and based mainly on memorizing information to later be regurgitated and then forgotten after the exam,

I am looking at a more holistic, practical and skills based approach to education from the ages of 12 to 16. I have already found schools which provide a more humane way of teaching such as Waldorf or Steiner, but they cost around 700euros a month.

Does anyone know of a cheaper alternative to these systems that could teach in a different way?

I live in Spain, but I would like to know about this topic on a worldwide basis.

IMO, school is 90% about learning how to socialize with other people your age. Actually becoming educated is more in the hands of the child (and the parents).

@Marta Puig Borras i think holistic schools are costly because  a) they are hard to be found and b) they may give attention to each student individually and developing their curriculum. Also, the more it becomes common like other schools, the more it will get cheaper because then it will get adequate government funding.

It's like organic foods. They are good for health, at the same time it will cost you extra.
