Epistemological alternatives to Science?

I'm curious about alternatives to science as an epistemic method.  

Also, I could see how the scientific method could cover a wider area than what most people might consider science.  Like different levels of maturity or development in science.  Perhaps there's forms of science that tribes that believe in spirits and superstition utilize, as in they follow the method of developing hypotheses, testing them, and then reviewing them, etc., but it's just that their maturity or awareness isn't as developed as modern science in that regard.

Can you provide any examples of something that's completely not science?

Or simply some alternatives.

For me, this is mostly just curiosity.  Like it might also help to see the landscape of epistemologies and help me to see what's what.

Science is something like making up a theory, then performing experiments to see if it holds up. Right?

So if you try to obtain the truth directly, is it still science?

 

Myself, I like to inquire to the spirits. They have far more advanced methods than us for determining truth/reality.
