8 posts in this topic

At the moment I am trying to become a software engineer. But what I deeply want is to teach meditation and assist African-Americans with mental health issues.

how can I do that and become a software engineer?

How is not important. Do not let HOW stop you.
Key is to SET THE INTENTION.

  1. Visualise and feel yourself where you want to be, how, where...Visualize positive end result AFTER you have achieved your goal. Do this at night before bed, 5 minute before sleep and do it when you wake up
  2. throughout the day, maintain and feel the feeling of wish fulfilled.

Law of Attraction, Manifestation.

never ask HOW. How is not for you to choose.

How is important otherwise you wont know what you need to do. It's just that for the case of dreaming big you disregard the how. There is obviously a point when it needs to become practical and you need to know the specifics of how to do it.

@Chumbimba

1) Think about whether you really want both at the same time.

2) Find a Buddhist monastery where you can learn meditation cheaply. Talk to the teachers. Continue pursuing your degree, and spend your summer breaks taking long meditation retreats.

3) Once you have a degree, take a gap year (or so) between school and work to immerse yourself in meditation totally.

4) When you feel ready (or your teacher sais so), get back into the real word, start your software-related career if you still wish so and run meditation courses for African-American people in the evening.

Or

Fuck software engineering and financial security. Switch to a degree that's directly related to helping people, such as being a teacher, psychologist or social worker, take trainings and seminars in dealing with mental health issues and helping people, including a training on mindfullness-based stress reduction or a similar program. Have meditation as just one of the tools in your wide professional toolbox!

Which one sounds more appealing? Any mix of those?

Well, helping African-Americans is good because help is much needed. This makes a good Life Purpose :)

One Idea could be you become a Developer and follow this simple plan: You could make a Business which trains them Programming and basic Skills off the Street and pays them good money, which is a solid Green Business with much Demand. It would take around 10 Years to get your first Apprentice... Like that:

1. Get financially Successful (this makes them listen and respect you) as a Developer which should lead you to have free Time to help aimless Youngster. 2. Mentor some of them one by one.   3. Repeat.

Or you find something else. However great Idea to help other :)

Questions to ask yourself:

- what skills do I need to know?

- what books do I need to read?

- what courses/seminars/retreats do I need to attend/purchase?

- what habits need to be implemented into my life?

- what kind of person do I need to become?

Visualize what you want, make it concrete, and then reverse-engineer your vision by asking these questions.

Leo's LP course is a good place to start.
