Why are men expected to provide for women?

From my experience women spend more money on themselves than men. Mostly for beauty. She is taking care of herself much more than u do. (Statistically speaking). And she spends her time with u. So u paid in a restaurant and she paid for a nice dress. So what? Sounds fair to me.
