Is there such thing as partial awakening?

7 posts in this topic

I attempted Leo's video on Neti Neti meditation yesterday and had an interesting result.  At the culminating moment, I felt vibration throughout my body, but nothing immediately changed.  The sky and surroundings didn't look any different, and I assumed that I had been unsuccessful.

But as I got up, I had the strangest sensation.  I could barely remember what I was doing that day or what I had intended to do next, or even why I had been meditating.  I decided to go for a walk.  I still can't decide whether this was wishful thinking or imagination or real, but everything felt So Beautiful.  The trees, the sky, the people, the grass.  I felt immensely present.  I put my hand on a tree and remember thinking "oh wow, they already knew."  This wasn't like being on psychedelics, my consciousness wasn't exactly elevated, and "I" wasn't completely gone... But "I" felt different.  My sense of self felt realllly far away, and reality shone through in a uniquely beautiful way that just felt whole.

Could this have been a glimpse of awakening?  I don't want to delude myself, but this experience felt beyond wishful thinking.

Is there such thing as partial awakening?

relatively speaking: yes - those glimpses

ultimately/absolutely speaking: no. it's once and for all, final.

Awakening isn't necessarily associated with any change in our experience. It involves a change in our relationship with experience. And who we really are and aren't.

You probably got a little tiny injection of consciousness. When the true awakenings start to happen, you'll know exactly what is happening. That's for sure.

Intrinsic joy is revealed in the marriage of meaning and being.

Awakening is not an On and Off switch, nor is it a 0 - 100% bar. It is an endless staircase, just look at Leo, hes been having "deeper" insights ever year and it will never stop.

Ya sounds like you had a taste, to me thats a good sign to keep practicing the meditation if what your interested in is consciousness.  Enjoy the ride, but also be aware that most face some challenges when waking up, like ego back lash and looking at ideas about ourselves and the world that cause us and others pain.

Feel free to reach out on the forum or PM me if you start to deal with some of this stuff.  It really helps to talk about this stuff with others who've gone through it, otherwise you may think your going crazy, since a lot of society will tell you you are if you tried and described some of this stuff.
