Do you guys still drink alcohol?

@Billy Shears No the desire to drink fell away at some point and I was a whisky collector and loved that stuff. No it just sits in my basement. I can't even remember when I drank the last time. Maybe 5 years ago?

I had a couple of glasses of wine last week which is enough for me to become dazed and a bit fuzzy. This funny insight came to me when I tried feeling the difference to psychedelic states. You’d think alcohol ‘lowers’ your consciousness and speaks to your ‘lower’ needs. Which it does, in a way… But when I got to the bottom of it I just wanted to be love, feel love, give love. Which is exactly the same feeling trips give me in one way or another.  The substances seem to direct your consciousness in opposite directions… Which is true but it’s also not true. If you investigate deeply, you see that they’re not really opposites. You actually end up at the same point. It’s a strange loop :-)

Love is the ground of reality in every experience. It’s the only need there is.

nothing makes you more spiritual and realize the unimportance of money than dropping a grand down on the craps table after a strong glass of whiskey and losing it all in one bet lol.

You could also call this being an unwise gambler hehe... the point is that I walked out of the casino smiling and with no regrets.

Were you still smiling the next morning @VeganAwake ?

Drinking alcohol now results in a major decrease in feelings of well being. It’s pointless now.

No don't think like that. If you're not drinking then it's probably best to leave it that way, but if you decide to drink it's not morally bad and can be used beneficially. It can also be used in ways that aren't beneficial so there's no need to have a glass.

Very rarely and only in small amount.

In fact, I never got drunk once in my life and I plan to never get drunk ever.

I get sleepy and slugghish when I drink alcohol.

Plus I don't personally find any valid reason to splash money only to get sleepy, sluggish, diminish my reflexes and to limit my social interactions.

@Billy Shears I believe it can have some spiritual benefits but this takes a lot of maturity. When drinking a lot of people becomes more conscious for a short period of time, 30-90 minutes, more loveable and more in contact with themselves, then it's downhill from there and the price you have to pay for this (often very little) glimpse of god (that's why people like it) is becoming unconscious for several hours or even days and that is the highest price there is to pay. Alcohol is like Heroin in a lot of aspects, just not that harmful.

If you're looking for progress on the spiritual path, psychedelics are x1000 more effective, that said, a glass of wine can be wonderful:)

Alcohol is just a very crude substance. It affects the whole body and all of its processes. It also gets transformed into acetaldehyde by the liver, which is poisonous in small quantities.

We have way more advanced substances for all of its possible uses, so I would generally stick to those. I'm not saying that alcohol is bad per se, but I think there's always a better alternative.

Guys and gals, learn to appreciate alcohol while you're still alive, you won't have a second chance. Time's too short for complaining.
