Edo people

Ethnic group

The Edo or Benin people are an ethnic group primarily found in Edo State, and spread across the Delta, Ondo, Ekiti, Lagos, Bayelsa, and Rivers states of Nigeria as well as other neighbouring African countries like Benin, Togo, and Ghana.

The Igbo people are an ethnic group native to the present-day south-central and southeastern Nigeria and also Equatorial Guinea. There has been much speculation about the origins of the Igbo people, as it is unknown how exactly the group came to form

Tiv are a Bantoid ethnic group. They constitute approximately 3.5% of Nigeria's total population, and number about 6.5 million individuals throughout Nigeria and Cameroon. The Tiv language is spoken by about 7 million people in Nigeria with a few speakers in Cameroon.

Ijaw people are people in Niger Delta in Nigeria, inhabiting regions of the states of Ondo, Bayelsa, Delta, Edo, Akwa Ibom and Rivers state. Many are found as migrant fishermen in camps as far west as Sierra Leone and as far east as Gabon.

The Ibibio people are a coastal people in southern Nigeria. They are mostly found in Akwa Ibom, Cross River, and on the Eastern Part of Abia. They are related to the Annang Igbo and Efik peoples. During the colonial period in Nigeria, the Ibibio Union asked for recognition the British as a sovereign nation.

The Yoruba people are an ethnic group that inhabits western Africa, mainly Nigeria, Benin, Togo and part of Ghana. The Yoruba constitute about 88 million people within Nigeria and over 120 million worldwide.

. The Zulu, or also known as Amazulu, are a Bantu ethnic group of Southern Africa. The Zulu are the largest ethnic group in South Africa with an estimated 10–12 million people living mainly in the province of KwaZulu-Natal. The Zulu originated from Nguni communities who took part in the Bantu migrations

Bantu are the speakers of Bantu languages, comprising several hundred indigenous ethnic groups in sub-Saharan Africa, spread over a vast area from Central Africa across the African Great Lakes to Southern Africa.

Ashanti, also known as Asante, are part of the Akan ethnic group and are native to the Ashanti Region of modern-day Ghana. Twi is spoken by over nine million Asante people as a first or second language.

The Mfantsefo or Fante are an Akan people. The Fante subgroup is mainly gathered in the central coastal region of Ghana, with some also in Ivory Coast. Originally, "Fante" referred to "the half that left" and initially settled at Mankessim

The Ga-Dangbe, Gã-Daŋbɛ, Ga-Dangme, or GaDangme are an ethnic group in Ghana and Togo. The Ga and Dangbe people are grouped respectively as part of the Ga–Dangme ethnolinguistic group. The Ga-Dangmes are one ethnic group that lives primarily in the Greater Accra of Ghana

The Dagombas are a Gur ethnic group of northern Ghana, numbering about 931,000. They inhabit the Northern Region of Ghana in the sparse savanna region below the sahelian belt, known as the Sudan. They speak the Dagbani language which belongs to the More-Dagbani sub-group of the Gur languages.

The Ewe people are an African ethnic group. The largest population of Ewe people is in Ghana with people, and the second largest population in Togo with people. They speak the Ewe language which belongs to the Niger-Congo Gbe family of languages

A celebration of love, life, harmony, justice, balance and reciprocity that are germane to African life.

Below an example of African pottery.

I notice that their designs are exquisite and lines and simple geometric patterns are repeatedly used creating a distinct art pattern.

Africans seem to be highly skilled at art.

This is reflected in their pieces of art.

This is a beautiful piece of African pottery. Notice the delicate design and mixture of colors and contrasts..

The same is reflected in their textiles. Most clothing has a repetition of color coded geometric pattern running symmetrically over the entire fabric.

Most of these fabrics are made of cotton. This would make sense because cotton is one of the fabrics that can be easily worn in the hot tropical African climate.
