Human Adulthood Vs Enlightenment

5 posts in this topic

Some claimed enlightened people say that enlightenment is unconditional happiness. Although "the ultimate truth" is very empty and should not be romanticized at all, according to other people. Maybe it's just a scheme to get you're ego on board with enlightenment as a life goal?
I think that if you fulfill the Maslow's hierarchy of needs then you will live a pretty damn happy life. Why should someone ruin that with enlightenment if it's just emptiness?  If you are suffering a lot in this world, enlightenment is a liberation, just as death becomes a liberation? It seems like the goal of the self actualized life is not enlightenment, but more the human adulthood as described by Jed McKenna.

Right now i am stuck at a crossroad, i have not read Jed McKenna's books and seeing my friend go a little crazy when reading them made me rethink this whole path, i want to read them, but i don't know if i'm capable. My biggest fear is loosing my mind, like going crazy, develop a serious psychiatric illness, this fear came during my last LSD trip. I've been researching so much, about everything, and now i'm scared to go further.
I'm feeling ready to endeavor the path that will serve my highest purpose, but I do not know if actulized.org is the right path.

Hope that you could understand my question(s), if not i could try to make it more clear, if you ask :)

Your mind is not willing to let go of you than. This is the very thing that causes the fears and doubts because there is a conflict within you. You may have tasted the liberation from self but yet you hold on to self at the same time.  Liberation comes only after the mind is let go of. Any resistance and holding on can cause paranoia from the conflict and could become Hellish. There is no going half way in this work. At some point you will have to make a choice, hold on to mind with all it's false doubts and fears, or let it go completely.  Are you prepared to go all the way for a higher purpose? In Zen there is a saying, It's like having a red hot iron ball stuck in your throat, do you swallow it, or do you spit it out?

This is good ! You are going to need to put all your inner faith into something that you may not trust at this moment. A faith that there is something much greater beyond mind and self. Are you willing to unconditionally trust? Only your faith in a higher purpose will carry you through to liberation from self. It's almost like there are dues to be paid first. You need to prove to yourself that you are truly worthy of something greater by giving it all up. Every last bit. Like the moth before the flame. If I may suggest, build on that faith until it gets stronger. And when you are ready, only than let yourself go and surrender. Trust that faith will carry you through when the time is right.

From what I've seen now I wouldn't recommend Jed McKenna to people who don't have a strong broad view of this whole enlightenment thing. It will most likely just mess up your head. I would start with something like 'Peter Ralston - The book of not knowing'. It seems pretty easy to understand and will keep you grounded to reality.

@Gummybear you're still trapped in thoughts crossfires. pretty sneaky monkey mind, huh? you clearly don't know what you're talking about when you say "emptiness".

the mystical nature of Reality does not imply nihilism. actually, it's very much the opposite!

the miraculous mystery of this eternal NOW calls for the deepest appreciation!
