Just because the soviet union was green doesnt mean that 60million people dead was necessary to make that next step.

The soviet union was NOT green, but blue and red. They took a green-aspiring philosophy and co-opted it into an oppressive system that suited the times. If you want something resembling green governments, look towards Scandinavia.

As Neo-Nazis Seed Military ranks, Germany Confronts and 'enemy within'

After plastic explosives and Nazi memorabilia were found at an elite soldier's home, Germany is worrying about a problem of far-right infiltration
at the heart of its democracy

CALW, Germany — As Germany emerged from its coronavirus lockdown in May, police commandos pulled up outside a rural property owned by a sergeant major in the special forces, the country’s most highly trained and secretive military unit.

They brought a digger.

The sergeant major’s nickname was Little Sheep. He was suspected of being a neo-Nazi. Buried in the garden, the police found two kilograms of PETN plastic explosives, a detonator, a fuse, an AK-47, a silencer, two knives, a crossbow and thousands of rounds of ammunition, much of it believed to have been stolen from the German military.

They also found an SS songbook, 14 editions of a magazine for former members of the Waffen SS and a host of other Nazi memorabilia.

“He had a plan,” said Eva Högl, Germany’s parliamentary commissioner for the armed forces. “And he is not the only one.”

The problem has deepened with the emergence of the Alternative for Germany party, or AfD, which legitimized a far-right ideology that used the arrival of more than a million migrants in 2015 — and more recently the coronavirus pandemic — to engender a sense of impending crisis.

Most concerning to the authorities is that the extremists appear to be concentrated in the military unit that is supposed to be the most elite and dedicated to the German state, the special forces, known by their German acronym, the KSK.

This week, Germany’s defense minister, Annegret Kramp-Karrenbauer, took the drastic step of disbanding a fighting company in the KSK considered infested with extremists. Little Sheep, the sergeant major whose weapons stash was uncovered in May, was a member.

Some 48,000 rounds of ammunition and 62 kilograms, or about 137 pounds, of explosives have disappeared from the KSK altogether, she said.

Germany’s military counterintelligence agency is now investigating more than 600 soldiers for far-right extremism, out of 184,000 in the military. Some 20 of them are in the KSK, a proportion that is five times higher than in other units.

The New Right, which encompasses youth activists, intellectuals and the AfD, worries General Kreitmayr. The lawmaker whose anti-Semitic comments led to General Günzel’s firing all those years ago now sits in the German Parliament for the AfD.

“You have leading representatives of political parties like the AfD, who say things that not only make you sick but that are clearly far-right, radical ideology,” General Kreitmayr said.

Soldiers were not immune to this cultural shift in the country, he said. Just recently a fellow general had become a mayoral candidate for the AfD. Several former soldiers represent the party in Parliament.

@Robi Steel No one's banning you here, bro. It's just that some of the political stuff you say is absurd and we can't help but laugh at it. Nothing personal, but it is amusing.

Who else is laughing? I don't see anyone laughing but you. Maybe it's the nervous kind of laugh.

@Nak Khid The AfD is a pseudo-giant. Those political views always existed in Germany. A few years ago those people were members of the right-wing-portions of CDU, FDP and SPD. They just left their original parties and merged into this obscure project called AfD. I don't think they will govern any time soon. I don't even think they want to. The AfD is changing their platform like every 5 years and they are trying to maintain media-coverage with dog-whistle-politics. In the end they are not trying to make politics for "the little man" as they say. All those politicians care about are their own pensions and not the greater good.

I mean... in most other countries those people were dangerous. But Germanys government and the german people in general have a very sophisticated political immune-system, which is working very well.

Maybe the soviet union wasnt green, I can totally see that. Maybe new populist parties in Germany are not the answer, I fully respect that. Im not sure myself how to go about this and what the answer might be but I can see which people are going in a dangerous direction. I can see some people that are more hateful than necessary (on both sides ofc).

I do however think that the New York Times might not be the most accurate source when researching the AfD. I want to make everyone aware that you can make anybody look like a horrible person when you omit information and distort it.

The reason I made this thread was to tell you, that in the past I felt sometimes intimidated when expressing my honest thoughts here. But I see that the vast majority of you are well-meaning and civil. I knew this before but just wanted to put it out there how I feel

@Robi Steel, I guess you are the first person in Germany who has taken psychedelics but still votes for AFD. Somehow this doesn't fit together. But maybe I am just biased.

The New York times article is about a specific situation regarding KSK members. I also included the whole long AfD manifesto link in the same post.
Fox news has not been covering the Afd much lately

Do you see how this is a self-deception and defence mechanism for your worldview? What if you actively tried to seek out competent left-wing commentators on YouTube? I remember asking myself that question many years ago when I was firmly planted in stage orange, but I never went through with it, because it takes effort to willfully expose your own beliefs to thorough scrutiny, and it's easier to just stay within your own echo-chamber. You have the choice to take the slow route like I did or the fast route like I suggested here. I recommend the latter if you really want to evolve.

Well I listened to a lot of those when I was younger but yes you are right. I should probably search out the best left commentators even though Im aware of many of them already, my mission is really to get the big picture.

Many musicians, entertainers and comedians I listen to are left-wing and Im familiar with many many arguments of both sides, I get it taught in Uni. I consume alternative media as a balance really, its not as one sided as you think. I always grew up in a very left-wing enviroment

But I will integrate what you said

I live in Norway, so I do understand your perception of how germans grow up within a left-wing society, but you must also see how this is not the same as actively seeking out high quality information. Your cultural heritage is only a low resolution background noise compared to what is available out there on the internet :)

There is no "german-culture". There never was.

For most of history "Germany" was patchwork of (at it's peak) dozens of countries which loved to fight each other. What is "german culture" supposed to be?

Democracy and basic human rights? That's american (for the most part).

well greek?

Capitalism? That's british.

way way back to the first coin? maybe somewhere in an non yet existing country?

Pretzels? It's austrian.

no actually that’s bavarian!

The german language? Quote: "someone from the rhineland can not even ask for directions in bavaria".

there are people who can communicate in both languages to the point of exchanging information - understanding might be not possible though.

understanding is not a matter of language, it’s more a matter of connection to the unknown without estrangement.

even fascism is italian...

It is not vandalism to tear down racist statues; it is vandalism for the government to put them there in the first place.  Filming, naming, and shaming racists is not bad either.  People reserve the right to not hire racist dirtbags.  The left and right both "censor public discourse", so this is a very straw-manny and hypocritical complaint.

So progressives don't have kids???? WTF kind of logic is that?

If you have kids you should be extra concerned about climate change, income inequality, rising healthcare costs, rising education costs, war with Iran, and all the other problems of late-stage capitalism.

In theory maybe. Practically conservatives make the babies as far as I can see. The girls who do gender studies are not the first in line in that regard.

Better to be seen in developing countries. The more conservative they are the more babies they make.

The whites may have spiraled up but babywise they spiraled down.

@Epikur It is true that the more developed humans become the less babies they pump out.

But this is actually a good thing.
