Is Meditation for weak minds?

You guys are hilarious. :D

Maybe we all have weak minds. Maybe we all need meditation. 

Maybe when our minds get strong we would no longer need to ask questions about what someone said or didn't say.

"You are meditating all the time by existing all the time ". I believe it's Alan watts who said that.   But yeah meditation is nothing but being aware and you are aware all the time. So whether you are thinking of something creative and brainstorming concepts or your mind is  calm and quiet makes no difference. There is no specific thing that needs to happen in order to meditate. Meditation is just being.


my mind is gone to a better place.  I'm elevated ..going out of space . And I'm gone .

I suddenly realized I was in a strange town and thought “Where am I?”. I looked at my watch and I had been running for over two hours. I asked a local person “Where am I? And which direction is my hometown”. It turns out I was in a small town about 15 miles away from my hometown. I ended running about five hours that day.

:o That's amazing. I've sometimes felt as if that could happen to me but it hasn't. I can totally see it if you were marathon training though. I've never run more that 9 miles. I find that 30-40 minutes in on some runs, I start to really zone. I like to be headed back towards home by then. xD

@Nak Khid   Are you asking questions or making statements?  I'm not clear in your OP. 

Do you want to know if you meditate that you will get some wisdom that is not just fabricated afterward? 

Do you feel like maybe you should meditate, have tried and got no results and are looking for reasons or an answer that perhaps will make you feel less guilty for not meditating?

What's the root behind your question?

The more you think you don’t need meditation, the more you probably need it. 
 

I’m an Enneagram 7, and suck at meditation as I always like to be on the go & doing, therefore I get lots of benefits from regular meditation, especially when I first started as I was a “chronic over thinker” so to speak, when Eckhart Tolle first described the voice in your head, and I noticed it, fuck me did it talk a lot. 
 

If you’re an Enneagram 9 who is naturally peaceful (Eckhart Tolle, Ramana Maharishi etc) & meditative, meditation will still have many benefits but time should also be spent doing something that is more “challenging” such as socialising or playing a sport, and that could equally be an effective “Formal meditation” 

But, after all meditation is not something we do, it is what we are, and life becomes a 24/7 meditation, where no resistance to the now exists. 

But, for newbies and intermediates Meditation is super helpful In a number of ways. 
 

Most beginners will be loaded with issues such as Anxiety, sleep issues, depression, no ability to relax, overthinking etc, meditation can help holistically deal with these issues for one. 
 

And, meditation helps you get more and more in touch with your presence in each moment, which is crucial for integrating trips, insights & realisations. 
 

But it’s not as if you can recommend one type of meditation for everyone, it depends on each unique persons needs and point in their own journey.

This is also why the enneagram is so amazing, it helps you understand so much about yourself, and in this case helped me understand why I hated meditation at first, because it was taking my out my comfort zone of always being on the go. 
 

If everyone picked up a meditation practice, the world would be a better place ;)

Eckhart Tolle is a classic type 5. Ramana could have also been a 5 although I can see why he could be typed a 9. But for Eckhart there is really no argument imo.

^ He's a philosopher too.  You can see the problem here. You spend time reading books and processioning ideas and
then it is suggested the wisdom comes from sitting around, wasting an hour of time sitting and doing nothing.

And after you do this you dont wind up with much  that is useful wisdom that is any different from what other people have said for hundreds of years.
It's not creative and is not supposed to be. Creativity is about imagining things, building castles of ideas in the mind while meditation is about emptying your mind of imagination and thoughts in general. You can be mindful of thoughts but you just note them dismissively as distractions.  You are trying to not be reactive to them and not engage in trying to mentally solving problems or come up with new ideas.  

You could be spending an hour to write down ideas, integrating other ideas with your 
own perspective and maybe coming up with something new or a new perspective,
instead you're supposed to sit there and do nothing and pretend it's something.
Sure 20 minutes can be stress relief but is it really anything more?
And if you force yourself to do it routinely sometimes it's even painful and boring,
not always tranquil. 

What if Beethoven or Einstein had gotten into meditation? 
Would they have zoned out and emptied their mind
and not have  given us what they gave us? 

 

It’s not that mediation is trivial and outdated, it’s that the average user fails to cultivate the innumerable benefits it provides. Very few attain what mediation is purposed for. It is not simply to empty the mind, it is to ascend ones consciousness to profound levels and align to the presence of Now.

Both of these premises far exceed any numb-skull spending relentless hours using the concepts their mind proliferates. The mind is a useful tool to a degree but a heavily limited one.

The problem we have here is that mediation has become superficialised and fictitiously abused. And as such, we have many doubting it’s utility because rarely does anyone know how to properly cultivate it or have an ounce of capacity to do so.

Mediation needs to be re-instated as its prior practice. Sitting for long periods of time, painstakingly, without movement or any accessible distraction.

The highest consciousness comes from the space of nothingness beyond mind. The mind itself, is a surface level operator merely concerned with the very conceptual symbolisations in which it creates and is limited by. Rarely does any human use the mind wisely let alone the consciousness that facilitates it.

Mediation done properly is far more powerful than most have the comprehensibiity to even imagine (especially in the west). Unfortunately, the conventional being is far too deluded to even entertain this possibility.

@Jacobsrw Well said, meditation needs to be done properly to see the true benefits of it, I also feel for many beginners, Guided Meditations can be of great use to help them truly understand the practice, and deal with whatever issue it is that for them into meditation, whether it’s wanting to reduce the anxiety, or an interest in opening the Chakras, and then a mix of your own meditations and Guided ones depending on your needs is what I have found to help the most. For example, guided meditations for sleep tend to be brilliant!

I love those guided meditations, especially for having a sound sleep (like yoga nidra) . That works like magic!

That’s it. Mediation is generalised too much. So many different benefits and uses can be extracted from it. I mean, which one is being referred to and what purpose requires fulfilling? One must understand this before simply sitting. 

The deepest of mediation is one that involves observing awareness. To the point the one observing dissolves. This is where mediation becomes truely remarkable.
