the law of impermanence

13 posts in this topic

for any form" thing " to exist it must be Impermanent. or  " anything that gets born into existence must  die eventually".
Nothing is static. Everything is in constant motion and Flux. Always. Forever.  This second is gone. And this one also . It's over.  The experience that you had Just before you click on this thread is gone forever. It's nothing right now. Think about your childhood memories.. All gone. Nothing. There might be some days in your life that you don't even remember at all.. All gone as if never even happened.   Philosophy and religion has been talking about this concept of Impermanence  since the beginning of mankind's
lifetime.it is very essential in the teachings of buddhism . And really it's so easy and obvious to understand for everyone.  But when you actually sit down and observe this and contemplate the full ramifications of this.. You might get existential crisis at first .   When you discover that You can't achieve anything(permanently) . No matter what you do will be gone.  You always strive for pleasure and happiness and achievements but you can't actually have it because it doesn't last. You try to elevate the dose (no pun intended) but no matter how happy you are for how long.." It's gone" . It's always gone. You can try everything you think will make you happy but you always end up empty and craving for even more.. because "it's gone".    Every experience is born to die. And therefore  there is really Nothing worth being attached to. No matter what you do or  where you go.. you are always back "here" with "this". These are some tough
pills for us to swallow. We know that subconsciously as we seek our happiness but not coming to terms with it creates suffering and emptiness and all kinds of addictions and neurotic behaviors. I'm currently using this law to get rid of my smoking addiction.  I realized that  I can repeat the "just one more cigarette" cycle forever and I will still want "just one more cigarette" and in fact I will want it even more and feel even more cravings and emptiness inside. So i have to put it down willingly because it must be put down anyways .

the reflection in the mirror will only stay as long as you stay, but you can never be totally still... it will keep on moving, the reflection is a flow, not a frame. it's a movie, not a picture

What is the reflection and the reflected in your analogy?

The way I understand it is any limited form has to be impermanent. That's by the definition of being a limited form. The only thing that can be permanent is the unlimited which is not any thing.

@Someone here reflection in the mirror = you before the mirror = ONE

yes. you're right. only no-thingness is permament and unlimited. forms are finite

forms change and dance around eternally against the unchanging emptiness

the you before the mirror is a no-thing, the reflection/forms will go on changing.

it's only a matter of identifying with the forms/reflection vs your true position...

the change and power isn't instant usually... the previous momentum slows down and then goes opposite way, like a fan spinning clockwise, it first slows down - *stops* - and then spins counter-clockwise.

the impermanent has gotten the hold of the permanent and has been making it dance...

you realize your mistake and then make the impermanent dance to your tune

How? What do you mean?

I'm actually coming to peace with this impermanence thing. I realized not accepting the impermanent nature of existence is what causes all my addictions and suffering. It first it might be a tough realization but if one can accept it fully and embrace will produce joy beyond description.

just like if you were having a night-mare and instead of waking up from the dream, you become conscious that you are dreaming... and it becomes a lucid dream. then the it's your dream. you dreaming and molding it to your will... vs previously you-inside of a dream.

and yes. impermanence is the truth. change is inevitable. like a dream. you don't wake up from a dream and cry about losing the billions which you inherited in last night's dream.

if you can take and view life to be the dream that it is. then you simply enjoy moment to moment. when you are in the mode of enjoyment / happiness, you are most powerful. powerful such that conscious thoughts creates reality... the gap between the thought and it's manifestation becomes less and less until it is instant... then all distinctions collapse. non-dual. ONE. realized-ONE.

@SoonHei thanks for your input.:) Oneness is a tricky issue tho. I believe it's a hidden fact that is only true under the surface. Yet when considering the apparent world it's built from nothing but boundaries and separation.

@SoonHei lol but I think it's one thing to ramble it and to be aware of it. I'm not aware of that tbh. To me there is just everything. Nothing is just nothing. And the two are not equal in a literal sense. Maybe in a sum total sense tho.
