Fear———— Need your help

12 posts in this topic

I have a problem ..... I know that it is very important to self actualize but whenever I do something else other than high consciousness work or study about high conscious work (meditation, yoga etc) like practising my skills or doing basic self help and self actualisation  , a fear emerges inside of me that what if I can’t awaken before I die? , what if I can’t attain enlightenment in this life ? And that distracts me from my work , now I know self actualisation is important and we should not think / get serious about enlightenment before we are at least financially independent. But there is a fear of failing to do what I want before death eats me from inside. For example , whenever something is wrong in body (even very common things) , I start thinking what if I die (and I am afraid all of a sudden ) ? . Now , I know some people will say that you are god , this body is temporary etc . But It can’t take away my fear unless I get a direct experience of that . This fear distracts me . For example , I code (and I love doing that by the way) and while I am coding there is this fear inside me all the time .this fear of death before attaining to the singularity and self realisation.Any  advices and tips on how do I deal with this fear ?

Last night I had a beautiful meditation where I became aware of how Fear had “kept me safe” my whole life.  I felt full of gratitude and saw how beautiful fear is.  For a long time I’ve been trying to erase or avoid fear.  There is no need.  It’s possible to thank it when it comes up.  Maybe its just trying to protect you.  Doesn’t mean you have to follow to every fearful thought.

I don’t know, perhaps it isn’t.  In simple terms I think about how fear keeps me safe while doing things like crossing the road or responding with fear to the sound of an alarm.  In this way I feel fear has a place.

I can relate to having many fearful thoughts.  Recently I have been recognising that they are simply stories playing in the mind and I can dismiss them as such.  Don’t know if that is any help.  Also giving more attention to what is actually being perceived right now around you helps.

Ive also benefited from speaking with a therapist about my thoughts.  Helps unpack them.

Hope you can find some peace <3

@DevOcean well I don’t want to go any therapist , that’s why I asked on the forum , I want to deal with this problem myself , as I have created it , and I think Morden therapists are more problem oriented than solution oriented. Moreover , I am Indian, and there is a stereotype in our families that whosoever goes to therapists is probably insane ?? , I just want to know if anybody else has experienced it , who can help.

Think of the path to enlightenment as a ladder that rises to the heavens.

On the ladder, there are many steps and each step brings you closer to the top.

Climbing up involves mastering each step.

One step might be meditation, so you should get good at it before you proceed to climb higher.

Another step might be becoming financially independent, so you must become independent before you climb higher.

As you keep climbing and getting better at things, your fears dissolve slowly.

If you skip steps, there is a risk that you might fall from the ladder, so you must be careful not to skip important steps.

After some years, when you have climbed high enough and many fears have been resolved, you will start to question your fear of death.

Only when you resolve the fear of death, you will awaken.

If you are afraid of heights as an example, you must start climbing higher and recognize that your fear was irrational. The more you keep climbing, the more your fears dissolve. When you get to the highest peak, you will look at your fears and laugh.

So you must identify your fears, and face them slowly.

How about trying to stay present when you're coding? Or practise self-inquiry while working/driving/doing chores?

Let's say, you meditate 1 hour a day. You're left with 23 hours. That's an awful lot of time and if you're spending it unconsciously, well, do the math. Furthermore, enlightenment is not in the future. Be present whatever you do. Easier said than done, that's for sure, but it just takes practice.

You could fall over and die right now, the story is only pretend. God is a story, enlightenment is a story.

Whatever is appearing is all there is.

Take an apparent object and ask what is the reason for it.

There is no reason for anything, this is free, it has no reason whatsoever to be what it is, it just is what it is. The individual wants a reason for itself, there is none. It's "inifinite" but "infinite" is pointing to this, you will never be satisfied with an answer. From what position are you going to get the full picture of everything? Every position would be everything appearing as that, wouldn't it?
